Not too excited for Darby, but I can understand it… the Eagles have a very young and inconsistent secondary. Rasul, LeBlanc, and Maddox did well at the end of last season, but you don’t know if they’ll be able to replicate that in 2019 and if you can get a veteran CB back there for cheap, then there’s no reason not to.

Darby’s already familiar with the system, it’s not like there are any better FA options, and with six young corners (along with Jenkins and McLeod) it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to waste a top draft pick on one when your team has other needs.

Anybody else think this means alot more Maddox at safety next year than CB?

Or maybe Maddox moves to nickle and LeBlanc goes back to the bench?

I could have lived without Darby coming back but im not upset about him being back either

In all honesty Mills is the main guy I dont wanna see lined up on the outside next year

When was the last time the Eagles actually made a move like that, to have one player play a different position? I think they just see Maddox as a CB. His filling in the Safety position last season was out of desperation. There are a few good Safety options in the draft, so I could see Howie picking one with one of his 2nd Round picks.

And yeah, I’m going to be so annoyed if Mills starts on the outside again when you have Jones or Rasul instead.

Start Rasul...better tackler...he is just as mediocre in coverage as Darby and he gets INTs.. Darby doesnt...

And since he is gimpy.. why not wait and let his value drop more...8m for a often hurt cb who hasnt impressed is no bueno

Darby is the best cover corner we had last year. Its just his tackling thats trash. Darby gets picks too man. 2017 was a really good year for him pick wise and he only played half of it.

Simple, You risk him signing elsewhere by waiting.

I can see and trust Maddox in that Corey Graham safety role when Jenkins moves to the slot or outside linebacker

And u are right, Rasul > Mills

I'm more worried about MLB & DL depth more than anything.

I think Tre Lamar or Germaine Pratt would do well w/ Bradham & KGH.

Also need to draft a RB. Corey Clement and Wendell Smallwood are not the answers.

This is one of those topics I will never come around on....Darby has 6 career INT...Rasul has 5- keep in mind Rasul gets very little playing time and has only been in the NFL for 2 years- yet Darby has been in the league for 4. I think keeping Rasul on the bench with his ball hawking skills are criminal. I see Darby get bullied down the field- he bites on double moved JUST as badly as Mills does. The secondary was decent exactly when Darby and Mills were out the lineup- that cant be a coincidence. I am not telling you Rasul is Revis but he needs to play and this moved stymies his development.

Revisionist history. The secondary was mostly SUPER ASS when Mills & Darby went down. They cost us multiple games, including at Dallas & at NO.

We win 11 games last season w/ an avg secondary.

I believe continuity will help tho. The young guys grew and it won't hurt to have depth there.

it was more ass when they were in- nothing revisionist about it- the secondary made plays when Darby and Mills went down. Again, I never said this is Revis and Richard Sherman but play making is play making and the combo that was doing it- I want to roll with them

We can agree that Douglas should be starting over Mills at the other outside corner spot.

Not everything was Mills fault last year on those big plays that we saw on TV (i.e. there was blown zone coverages by Graham, Jenkins and Darby in that Tampa and Tennessee game on the Coach's tape).

Rasul plays the ball better than Mills. Mills is way too grabby on an island.

Mills is better technique wise than Rasul but doesnt have the athletecism or ball hawking ability to mask his or others mistakes in coverage.

I still say Darby is the best cover corner we have because he has great recovery speed.

I like Douglas, he is good but he has flaws coverage wise and he doesnt have that recovery speed. But he is definitely better than Mills at this point.

And like u said Darby will probably start the season on the PUP list so Douglas is most likely gonna get burn at the other outside corner spot.

And its just a one year deal, who would u have rather spent that money on ? Ziggy Ansah? Suh? Eric Berry, Yeldon? Mark Barron? Jernigan? Clay Matthews?

With the secondary set we can focus the draft on RB, OL, DL and LB

Who are some of the LBs in the draft that we should be looking at? That's another thing I'm kinda worried about. If I remember correctly when our pass rush couldn't get home the linebackers and the down safety drifted back into some soft ass zone and just gave up everything underneath. When we had Mychal Kendricks it worked out okay because he had good coverage skills for the position and really good closing speed. With Hicks and Nigel that didn't work out too well because combined they don't have the same range as a Nigel/Kendricks tandem.

On the secondary
Am I wrong for thinking that Jalen Mills would be a good safety in our scheme and him switching roles would solve multiple problems. The biggest one being him no longer being on the outside.

Yes that we can agree on....I much rather have Rasul than Mills starting on the outside....I still dont understand why Mills isnt a safety when that is the position he played @ LSU....it makes no sense to me.
and Yes....Graham was a standing corpse....I would have taken Nate Allen over the Joe look alike....please let him retire. regarding the extra bread, thats a good question..there arent many FA I really want- the most interesting name there would be Berry but he is gonna want bread- more bread than I would want to spend on an aging safety with diminished skills. I definitely dont want Mathews, Suh or Ansah.

Jim Schwartz was at fault most of the season but he did the young corners no favors by not mixing up def fronts, blitzes, and coverages.

I still contend the first several games without Mills and Darby, the secondary was getting torched something crazy.

Do we not forget we were signing guys off the street and they were getting heavy burn?

I have been critical of Schwartz- I disagree in the notion he doesnt mix up coverages- he likes to play mainly single high safety looks and sometime quarters but he sometimes chooses between the two at incorrect times or doesnt use cover 2 on teams with no real slot WR threat or pass catching TE. From this perspective- he leaves me pissed. I also am not a fan of the amount of off coverage our corners do. the ONE thing I kinda agree with- is he cant really blitz with our secondary players and leave Mills or Darby on an island. He can blitz linebackers but he just doesnt do it for some dumb ass reason.....ok Jim is a fukkboi- we agree on that

I think its unfair to kick dirt on the Rasul, Crevon and Maddox trio bc its the first time they are playing together and communicating with each other on the field in real time so it takes time for them to gel and when they did gel - they looked pretty good. This is a very long winded reply to say I dont like Darby..but I get it..he has 4.3 speed - altho I see him get beat by WR who run a 4.3 but yall dont hear me tho
