naw dez was fast he could return punts , run bubble screens , reverses all that . if he could get on alshon level that would be nice .
Nah, Dez wasnt that fast. He was a physical runner
His 40 time was 4.52 and JJs unofficial one was 4.53. Alshon was 4.48
They have similar straight line speed. Similar body type and similar playing style of high pointing the ball and running with ferocity after the catch.
I think Alshon a different beast, he is not as athletically gifted but he knows route concepts and running routes and leveraging a defender. I dont think there is anyone better in the league doing it other than people like AB and OBJ
Hell maybe JJ is a hybrid of Dez and Alshon but like NYSTATE said below, he is way more physical than Alshon was but is a better route runner than Dez was at their age. Either way its gonna be hard for him not to see playing time this year because with that style and skill set, he can play the slot too.
Dez couldn't spell route much less run one. JJ already has more nuance to route running than Dez did (which is sad- Dez relied on physicality to win which is fine until either you get old or hurt and you cant win that way as much anymore) Now time will tell if JJ has the kind of success Dez had early in his career- the problem is JJ has alot of talent to battle for the football. I actually do see alot of Alshon in his game, except JJ "seems" more physical - that may have more to do with his build than how to uses leverage to win at the catch point or create an inch of separation
I did say a "
more polished" young Dez for that route running reason
.
Completely agree with u about the physicality part of it. It's not completely Alshon (to think about it, Alshon and Dez are similar too with high pointing the ball and using leverage)
But JJ has a similar body type to Dez (both 6 foot 2 and 220 plus pounds). And is just as athletic and he knows the route tree better than Dez did coming in. I think sky is the limit for him if he stays healthy.
Yo. I cant wait for the season to start
.
But our success, really all starts with Wentz tho.
We just need Wentz to play point guard for 16 games spreading the ball and stay away from unnecessary hits. If he does that, We can really make noise this year.
I hope he and Doug studied up on wat made Foles so successful and translate it to Wentz this year finally.
