yup, I get why they thought they could get more but they all fukked up. It’s weird that the Cubs would have retained all of them at big deals and now are in a completely different place. Literally all of them got less though in the open market which is wild
I don’t know if they was overhyped as players but whoever was in charge for Cubs player development dropped the ball, kris Javier and Kyle should be franchise cornerstones right now competing for mvps

I think we take for granted how difficult it is for baseball players to play at an elite level for a long period of time.

The only guys who have done a decade of elite play in the last 20 years are Pujols, Cabrera and Trout.

Most guys, even great players, are up and down to an extent like Harper and Betts. Others put it all together for a few seasons like Josh Hamilton, Yelich and Bellinger but don't maintain it for one reason or another.

You have a point, its just that I expected the Cubs to be more like the Red Sox rather than that royals team that won some years ago

The price of a Luis Castillo would not be worth it now imo. The Mets farm would be completely barren. They'd ask for one of Baty/Mauricio (I don't think they'd ask for Alvarez cuz the Mets would hang up) and probably one prospect and maybe a McNeil or something.

If they didn't trade for Bassitt, Cincinnati would've ask for him and one of those 2 I mentioned. They gotta chill.
