Arizona made a big time offer and they were super persistent in getting him.
This, with Bagwell and Biggio getting new contracts at the time we had too much payroll for a mid market team. DBacks offer was too good to pass up and we did “ok” after he was gone. The 90’s for our team was way more about offense than good pitching with the killer B’s lineup heading into the early 00’s. The first WS team was built off Pettite & Clemens backs though.
