Having an awful baseball team isnt fun to watch or pay the prices. I dont blame baseball fans for not showing up when their teams arent putting an actual competitive team on the field. Only a few cities are going to sell out their teams regardless of success while pretty much only Tampa and Cleveland seem to struggle with attendance regardless of how well they do. Every other market has good baseball fans and its something casual fans or even non-fans will be apart of if enough other people are doing it.
Baseball is the ultimate bandwagon sport in America. Success (or any semblance of it) brings people out the woodwork. You see it in this thread every season :heh:

It blows my mind that the tigers had scherzer and verlander, and both are having their best(ish) seasons NOW, and neither will wear tigers hats in Cooperstown :wow:

At least Mariners that leave come back at the end to seal it
There’s debate amongst us fans here in the H, unless we sign him to his last contract for his retirement we think he is going to be a bytch and go to Cooperstown with Detroits logo on his hat :beli:

We have no modern era pitchers (and not many position players either from modern ball) in the hall so it would mean a lot more to us.

Interesting. I can't see it but it would mean a lot if he and Cabrera retire at the same time, and would both be first ballot together.

Is this stadium/ticketing fuccery? There’s two outfield box sections completely empty and the camera makes a point not to look in that direction.

Either way, I’m glad the O’s are still in it even after gifting us Mancini who has been tearing shyt up his first week with us.

If you go back,

The Tigers drafted Justin Verlander.
They drafted Rick Porcello, who never really learned how to control his powerful arm. By the way, Porcello was traded to the Mets for Yoenis Cespedes. Cespedes was then moved to the Mets for Michael Fullmer and Luis Cessa. People thought Fullmer was going to be a front-end starter. It just didn't pan out.
They drafted Nick Castellanos who has been a valuable bat for the Cubs and Reds (not so much with the Phillies so far).

They had a horrible stretch of 1st round draft picks from 2013-2018 where they took Corey Knebel, Jonathan Crawford, Derek Hill, Cristin Stewart, Beau Burrows, Matt Manning, Alex Faedo and Casey Mize. Ugh.

The way the Tigers wound up with Max Scherzer was through a 3-team trade with the Yankees and Diamondbacks.

New York received Curtis Granderson.
Arizona received Edwin Jackson and Ian Kennedy.
Detroit received Max Scherzer, Phil Coke, Daniel Schlereth, and Austin Jackson.

While Granderson had some good years in New York, Detroit won this trade easily by getting a 25 year old Max Scherzer.

Shame it didn't work out.

There’s no question about IF for Verlander, but he is def retiring after Miggy. His largest volume of work and arguably his best years were in Detroit where he made his name. Remember, he didn’t necessarily want to leave Detroit and it was an 11th hour decision for him to come here because he saw the Tigers not competing for a long time (still aren’t) and Houston with his help would get over the top which we did.

Los Angeles C.A.

This is really disappointing.
Because I was planning to take a quick trip down to Baltimore to see an Orioles game but now the tickets will probably be hard to come by.
Crazy how just being in the Wild Card mix, brings out all types of supporters.

Baseball is alive and well
Last night they had a free Dru Hill and Smashmouth concert after the game. I was there a couple weeks back and could have walked up and gotten tickets for an Orioles/Yankees series

Most random ass concert of all time :heh:

I get they are from the area, but it’s rare if you meet someone that are fans of both. I know like 3 of Smashmouths biggest songs but nobody whipping the ride bumping them :mjlol:

I remember when the Tigers had Verlander and Jeremy Bonderman.

Went 7-1 in the ALDS/ALCS before losing in the WS.
