I'm a casual, but, how do ya'll die hard feel about;

"The MLB doesn't market their players well enough!"

It sounds like there's not enough drama queen, soap opera bullshyt that I'm tired of as a NBA fan.

They can't even stretch out the Juan Soto stuff and he was mad the info got out.

I think with the way contracts are structured, there's not a lot of hype on player movement.

(forgive if I'm wrong, my biggest reference is The Show )

  • A year or two in the AA
  • A year or two in AAA
  • Three years til arbitration
  • Another three before free agency
And you damn near 30 and prolly looking for a 7, 8 year deal

It's just a bad/wrong take

Baseball is a regional sport with national appeal / love.

The best players on baseball teams ARE STARS in their market... JRod, Haniger, and Ty France are already loved in Seattle. Rodriguez is already a top 2 athlete in the city, as a rookie. The players are marketed very well in their markets.

The league promotes matchups and teams nationally. They don't push Judge vs Rodriguez, they'll sell Yankees vs Mariners in August. There is no point in selling to me, in Seattle, how great Bryan Reynolds is because I don't give a shyt about the pirates and will never buy a jersey. It's actually strategic marketing to push players in the market, and teams / matchups nationally.

MLB doesn’t market as well as NBA but there’s a couple of points I’d make.

One is, MLB is played every day. And you’re doing a series. Sure, you can hype up a subway series or Yankees vs Dodgers. Whatever. But it’s not the same as “on Christmas Lebron faces Kobe” or something like that. Right? The latter has a bigger, more sellable narrative to it. And you can plan around that date. If I told you the Yankees play the Red Sox on September 8th, so what? Ok you’ll watch if it’s like, Clemens vs Pedro. Right? But that’s about it.

The other point is, some guys just don’t want that attention. Mike Trout is famous for preferring to focus on baseball. A lot of players don’t want to work with advertisers and stuff for 7 hours on a promotion or whatever. Now that’s true of a lot of basketball players too. But because baseball has larger rosters I feel like more guys are used to attention being spread out to the point they don’t even care too much.

And the last point I’d make is, baseball hinders itself because of its unwritten rules nonsense. I think this, more than anything, holds back the promotion of the game. Because so many stupid customs and rules prohibit players from expressing themselves. You can’t have swagger. You can’t flip a bat after a home run. You can’t strut. Basically anything that could be fun and entertaining is suppressed under the bullshyt argument that it “shows up the other team”.

What's crazy--again, I'm a casual and mostly follow on social media and the video game--Rodriguez got a low ass card and low stats because he is a rookie and, in real life, dude is gettin MAD love.

I just found out he was a rookie.

How is this true...wtf

Damn, seems so.

Soto gone.

The current-but-possibly-on-the-trade-block outfielder for the Washington Nationals arrived less than 24 hours before the Home Run Derby after Soto flew commercially to Los Angeles following the team's series against the Atlanta Braves in D.C. That drew the ire of Soto's agent, Scott Boras, who pointed out how unfair it was that players from the Braves were chartered to All-Star Weekend but the Nationals couldn't do the same for Soto.

The Atlanta Braves arrived [in Los Angeles] five hours earlier than Juan Soto did," Boras said, according to Sports Illustrated's Stephanie Apstein. "You know why? Because their team chartered a plane. Juan Soto had to fly on a commercial flight and wait in an airport for two hours and get here at 1:30 in the morning and have to compete in the Home Run Derby. And that’s something that Major League Baseball did not take care of and that’s something that the Washington Nationals did not take care of.”

You can’t listen to these idiots on here who claim baseball is dying. Yes, baseball promotes teams more than players, which is how it should be. NBA fans care more about off season news than the actual games. Baseball probably has the most loyal/hardcore fans out of any sport.

There are no stan wars in baseball like in basketball, which creates a lot of talking points no matter how dumb and redundant they are.

I think the whole “they don’t market players” thing is because of the mindset old fans have that showboating isn’t good & they liked for players to be quiet, but that’s going away with the wave of young Hispanic and black players. Even some of the new white boys in the game are swagging out there.

In my opinion, the main issue with baseball is how long it takes players to make the show when they get drafted. A dude can get drafted, but he won’t make the major league team until 3-5 years later. I personally think it’s too many minor leagues. Kinda like how boxing has too many commissions that give out belts. It’s hard to follow unless you’re a real diehard fan.

He’s not THAT good but he’s only 23 and has a ring already so that’s what gets him the hype

1. way to show your baseball knowledge

2. Juan Soto is younger than most of the guys who were in this year's futures game. Oneil Cruz on the Pirates came up and initially was wowing baseball fans with his size and potential and he's 3 weeks older than Soto. Sports talk guys see an elite player and do what they do, but players like Soto don't become available with the resume he already has. This would be like the Nats making Harper available in trade talks the year after he won MVP.

The biggest reason why the Yankees will likely not get Soto is because acquiring him all but guarantees Judge leaves since they will not pay for both and they're not gutting the system for a rental. I love the Martian and wouldn't trade him for almost any player in baseball. Soto's one of them though.
