Interesting moves by the Mets on Starling Marte and Mark Canha.
But there are significant risks involved.
Mark Canha is a power threat and he can get on base. The problem is that he can't really hit consistently enough to the point where he's reliable. And he's a terrible defensive player. So you're hoping you get the career year he had in 2019, but that's looking more like an outlier than anything. That said, it's not like they are paying him a ton of money (reportedly 2 years, 26.5 million).
Starling Marte is a good player and he's fairly consistent. He can hit and he can steal bases. But he hits too many ground balls for my liking and he's not the most patient hitter at the plate. That he makes contact can be a big benefit -- if you have guys on base (especially Nimmo). But there's also the threat of the Mets looking at A LOT of double plays with this guy depending on where he bats in the lineup...especially as he's 33 years old...the bat speed starts to lag a bit. I'm just saying. It's possible it could go the wrong way.
I mean if you're looking at a heart of the lineup that has Lindor, Marte, Alonso, Canha...I can see the upside.
I'm not a fan of the Eduardo Escobar signing. I just don't think he's that good and I don't really know how he fits in this lineup other than he gives you some flexibility as far as Righty-Lefty goes.
