Cuz teams on the West Coast hate opening the season at home against teams they know will be attractive during the dog days of the summer.
For example: the Yankees visit Oakland, LA and Seattle ALL in August. They don't wanna see them while kids are in school. Same with the Twins. All scattered during the nice days.
and at least the schedule makers tried with the Yankees by opening in Texas and then Houston, but the stupid lockout happened.

also extremely happy about this deal. the dude was severely underpaid for a while because they locked him up early 5 years ago.
