& Burton/247 is basically reporting a similar story as the other UT sites, except his has been COMPLETELY spun to make it look like Strong's fault. From Burton
Texas’ offensive coordinator search has taken place for less than a week, and it’s already devolved into a mess of cosmic proportions.
Thursday evening Horns247 reported Tulsa co-offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert had agreed to become Texas’ next offensive coordinator. According to sources close to the situation, Gilbert had been offered the job and accepted it in a verbal agreement with Strong.
The pair had a working understanding of what the parameters of the deal would look like, which is commonplace in the coaching industry. However, Thursday afternoon a FOX News affiliate in Tulsa reported Gilbert had turned down Texas' job. We at Horns247 can confirm he spurred Texas' initial offer, but cannot yet say negotiations between the two parties are finished.
As for the details, that is where Strong came up short to close the deal.
Gilbert told Strong from the outset that he wanted a three-year deal.
But, for the second time in four days, when the contract details were supposed to be sent to the candidate, only a two-year deal had been approved.
In both instances, including the contract negotiations with TCU co-offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie, Strong failed to get any prior approval from the Texas administration for a three-year deal.
Strong has had months to get prior approval of a three-year deal for candidates, and he knew the candidates wanted a three-year guarantee but never took the action necessary or even adequately communicated that to the Texas administration.
After getting further details and making sure the president of the university was OK with it, the Texas administration agreed to the three-year term and money with Gilbert today.
But by then, it appears the level of trust between Strong, Texas and Gilbert had been stretched too far.
Furthermore, Gilbert, I am told, wanted to bring his offensive line coach Matt Mattox from Tulsa, but Mattox did not want to move and was not expected to follow Gilbert giving Gilbert even further reticence.
So for the second time in less than a week, Strong did not get a three-year deal pre-approved by his bosses until contract negotiations had nearly reached their conclusion.
In both instances with Cumbie and Gilbert, the Texas admin approved the money and the three-year contract.
Charlie Strong just couldn't close the deal.
yea right

I agree, I prefer Baylor's system more. But I want Cumbie more because he'll bring more of an instant boost to recruiting & Air Raid is supposed to be an easier system to pick-up.I hate the Air Raid and don't want or like Cumbie. He can kick rocks

Baylor's system is the easier one to pick up. He's been running that system since he was at Stephenville.

Just when we thought Tulsa’s Sterlin Gilbert would not come to Texas, my sources have told me that officials from the Longhorns reinitiated talks on Friday, and the program is moving closer to naming him its new offensive coordinator.
Sources have confirmed Texas President Greg Fenves is flying out to Tulsa on Friday night in an attempt to persuade Gilbert to join the staff.
From what I have been told, the only thing preventing Gilbert from joining Texas’ staff is Tulsa offensive line coach Matt Mattox, who has hesitated at the prospect of a move to Texas. Sources have told me Gilbert is waiting for Mattox to decide if he wants to join him in Austin.
In addition, sources have told me Gilbert has agreed to the financial terms of his guaranteed three-year contract offer. Gilbert is slated to receive $600,000 in 2016, $700,000 in 2017 and $800,000 in 2018.
