This pretty much, to say the old guys weren't marks is a lie because most were. Difference is the business was different, they wouldn't allow themselves to look weak like this. The business seemed much more cut throat, guys would kill their own mother to keep their spot, this new generation is just happy to be there. The old guys grew up marks but when they got into the business, they learned the only person they should be marking out for us themselves, this new generation never got the memo.

No social media back then definitely helped.

Imagine during the peak of the Attitude Era, Austin, Rock, Trips, and all them were constantly being overshadowed by not Hogan, Savage, Flair, etc., but by the dudes who were in their prime 10 or so years before even them. nikkas from the late 70s and early 80s. So like Larry Zbysko, Stan Hansen, or Killer Kowalski. Or better yet, imagine if Patterson and Brisco weren't booked as the stooges, but came around once a year to lay Austin out and still look like contenders.

If I was in Seth’s place there in the ring, I’d be standing off to the side of that fruity group hug too :jawalrus:

Looks like Triple H is looking over at him laughing at his misery:russ:

not a Rollins fan, but in fairness to him, Triple H is likely still :hhh: at him because of the way Stephanie was clearly lusting over him for about a solid year:pachaha:

To play devil's advocate, a lot of this has to do with shytty writing and booking moreso than the actual wrestlers. To parade these "legends" out was something USA wanted, so everything probably had to adapt to include all the people in for this one show, and thankfully they booked at least one segment (Foley/Wyatt) which saw the younger guy not get jobbed out by someone in their 50's. Can't really blame the wrestlers here given the other bullshyt that's going on around them to spike ratings.

Like I mentioned in the Raw thread:
That’s what happens when you eat off nostalgia for entirely too long. The WWE spent years dissing present day guys on their roster, only to let previous era stars do whatever they want, basically letting the fans and workers themselves get the picture that the past >>>>> the present, and now, the shows are rendered meaningless.

The marks may be in the ring, but the WWE themselves made it that way. They’ve beaten nostalgia to a pulp and all they’re left with is a large roster of stymied talent that’ll continue to look like losers as long as the WWE wants.

The 'talent' can't sell which is why they bring in that 50 year old wrestler(like Austin) cuz his name still brings a crowd out.

Like HOF Nash would say, take a shower, hit the gym & get a clue.

:dead:

Of course it had to be Mick Foley who had to take the fall, respect to him despite his stooging :manny:
Mick knows the only thing that’s real about wrestling is the money and miles
