My Pops Forever RIP
Aside from the hot first month he had in 2018, he’s basically been a .240 hitter the last 2 years for a team with a big surplus of quality infielders :francis:. As is, the only reason they might bring him back considering that is the need for left handed batters in the lineup considering that they also have Andujar, Torres, Luke, Gio, and DJ on the roster. Sucks, but it is what it is.
By not adding another lefty to the lineup, we’re guaranteeing that Brett Gardner will forever be present in the middle of the lineup.

I get that, but they’ve both hit roughly the same over the last 2 years. His speed in the outfield is valuable at least. Shame that Bird didn’t pan out at first base.

Didi got the tools to be the contact lefty any productive lineup needs but this trash batting approach got him hunting homers like Harden hunts 3s & fts :scust:

if he just focused on making contact, taking the ball up the middle & the other way...no reason in my mind he couldn't be the consisten 2 hole bat that does what DJ does (not w/the same avg obv) and finally move Judge to the 3 hole where he belongs

yeah I know. He’s a quality clubhouse guy but I don’t know if I’m giving $15 mil for that. The feeling with him coming in a couple of years ago was that would be “the guy” for a long time after Jeter

Extends Hicks who is a streaky as fukk and injury prone, keeps bringing back Gardner, had to be forced into Lemahieu, traded for Stanton when we didn't need him and absorbed his shytty contract. Cashman is a trash GM.
$10 million aav for a outfielder when healthy is automatically amongst the top 7 or 8 in the league in his position is a damn good deal.

The Stanton deal was too good to pass up. Unfortunately he has old man skills that will catch up in the worst was once his upper body starts to rapidly deteriorate.

Gardy is what he is , a 3rd round pick who somehow went from a 5th outfielder bubba Crosby clone to an above average major league outfielder with years under his belt.

I honestly believe that they wanted DJL all along & saw the value in him more than Machado.
The only other person in a GM/assistant role who wanted DJL more is now the GM of the RedSox for what its worth.

Its gonna be scary in about 4 or 5 years when they rebuild that farm & the Yankees still dont have it together down there... can't neglect it like they did from 1999 to 2004.

If the Yankees get Cole, it will be north of 35M per year.
Stanton is nearing the 30M per year portion of his contract.

They're probably going to have to open up the checkbook for Aaron Judge.
It's possible they're looking at 100M per season just on those 3 players.

I would expect the Yankees to sign Gleyber to a team-friendly deal in the next year or two. He's not FA eligible until 2025 but he's arb-eligible next winter (or the year after, I think).

Unless Stanton shows 2017-type play in the next year and a half, I think the Yankees will consider eating part of his deal and shipping him out. Even for the Yankees, 30M is a lot for a future DH.

Hope they do it sooner rather than later, doesn’t he have a no trade clause though?

DECEMBER 10: The Blue Jays have explored the possibility of a reunion with Happ, Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports (Twitter links). The Brewers are said to be among the National League clubs with some level of interest.

Now that Didi is reuniting with Joe in Philly, I wish him the best, and he should get a rousing ovation when he comes back.

He developed into a solid 2-way player. He was clutch. A fan favorite. But most importantly, personality wise, he was a breath of fresh air compared to the corporate, stiff, robotic demeanor of Jeter. I'm happy he was the guy to replace him.
