Warner Bros. Unveils Updated DC Films Slate But There Are Some Notable Omissions

WW_II.jpg

At the Comic-Con Experience 2017 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Warner Bros. held a panel promoting a number of upcoming movies. As you might expect, the DC Films Universe also got a mention and that came with an updated reveal of the releases which are on the way. However, the announcement was perhaps most notable for the absence of several key projects which are supposed to be in the works.

Wonder Woman 2 was the first to be presented but the "2" was shown as "II" in Roman numerals, so that could be an indication of how the title will appear on promo art and the like moving forward.

Aquaman followed, as did Flashpoint, Suicide Squad 2, Shazam, Batgirl, Green Lantern Corps, The Batman, and Justice League Dark. That's an impressive lineup of movies but there are lots of movies which weren't mentioned, including Cyborg, Deathstroke, Gotham City Sirens, Harley Quinn, The Joker vs. Harley Quinn, Nightwing, the standalone Joker movie, and the long rumoured Justice League 2.

Perhaps those movies are just too early in the stages of development for title cards to be shown but Warner Bros. is clearly still committed to the DC Films Universe for now. What do you guys think?

I cant fukk with the fact that half the movies the DCEU feel like set up movies, but in always gonna support comic movies so they continue to get put out:yeshrug:. I dont think the approach thet did was horrible, but their execution sure as hell was. Being 5 movies in and the biggest villain names you pulled out are Ares and Zod? I feel like Aquaman's gonna do well because theyre putting so much effort into making him a bad-ass. All I really want id a Red Hood and The Outlaws or Static Shock movie

You can’t even have the red hood storyline because of BVS:mjlol:, these idiots did not think things through. I say reboot and start over put someone in charge who knows what the fukk they are doing.

They can still make a Red Hood movie, itd just have to be a seperate Earth in the multiverse

They can’t even get one universe right and you want them to broach the topic of a multiverse? Nah just reboot before this grave is dug further down. Snyder has made various mistakes and this needs to be addressed.

Why not? With all it's faults I think the doors still open. His murder was even acknowledged in SS. I think the universe needs a soft reset more than a hard reboot.

Ok here's how the lineup should go...

Suicide Squad 2. leading into shazam, Then Shazam feat Cyborg. Then Green Lantern Corps leading into the Sinestro Corps war. Then Batman with Flash at the ending. Leading into Flashpoint with Flash fixing the timeline with the meeting with batman in the cave and it sets up Justice League 2 with darkseid coming to earth...

:ld: this is how I would restructure their universe... Have batgirl make cameos in the batman movie nightwing, red hood...
The green lantern corps movie is a movie where they deal with infighting between the corp and dealing with an alien threat where sinestro at the end breaks away from the green lantern corps because he's disgusted with the guardians and find the yellow crystal making his own ring, and towards the end a green lantern ring is sent to john stewart. putting him in the mix for the justice league 2.
Shazam is shazam gaining his powers, fighting black adam and crossing paths with cyborg and being like a buddy hero story.
Flashpoint writes itself really... :ld: then segway into Justice League 2 with Darkseid & his entire army coming to earth...

This is more of a stepback than people think. Discussing closing up the DC Films division and putting the movies under the regular WB arm probably decreases less chances of a universe and more regular DC movies and we'll be back to the pre-2010s with probably 3 or 4 franchises to manage and see where they go after (which maybe isnt a bad thing now that I think about it). Also after all the talk of Geoff Johns being the man to fix it and saying that he was in charge of everything from Wonder Woman, this is now pinning an L on him and demoting him seems like they are just trying to hold someone accountable when he seems to have never really had

Look really this feels like Kevin Tsujihara's fault from the jump, if you look at his history hes not really a film and art guy but came into WB to manage their different commercial ventures outside of actual films (Six Flags, on Demand, Warner Home Video...business really). He became president in 2013 and immediatley reacted to the Avengers the year before by giving the blessing of making Man of Steel the launch of a larger universe to copy Marvel (A Superman movie which by the way, dont forget was only made so that WB and DC would not lose the rights back to the Shuster and Siegel estate and had to announce they were going into production before 2010, hence why Cavill was announced late 2010 and why it was initally meant to drop winter 2012).
You can tell hes one of those studio heads who thinks you have to just course correct by responding to the basic loudest complaints its real easy and focus on the products and roll out (Which there has been a lot of for these movies). He would be perfectly working for a studio like Fox or producing Transformer movies where its about tying the toys to the films and that sort of stuff.

Hell he was the one at the start of 2014 who said he wanted the DC universe to be dark cause he saw how Dark Knight trilogy and Man of Steel did and thought it had to all be like that. Snyder works well for the studio getting a movie in on time and budget under a false pretence of correct tone.

It doesnt really fit totally with Warners brand of being an auteur filmhouse that balances with commercial aspirations.

But they've gone through this shyt before, 20 years ago in fact when the Schumacher films were a response to Burton's Returns sequel tied to sell toys and be their own thing, once they had like a year of box office flops they lost trust in their filmmakers but in reality the studio execs mandated so many notes for these films

He doesnt have an artists touch and honestly Nolan was lucky as fukk that he was in that small window at the WB in 00s to make the Dark Knight trilogy because if he was there he would tell him to make like Raimi's Spiderman or Singer's X-men instead of its own thing. He probably fires him after Begins opened with like $53 million and not wait for the legs that it got and realize Batman had to win its audience back from 8 years prior.

Long as he's there they wont get it.

Just to provide some additional input, the reason they choose to install Kevin Tsujihara as CEO was because the company wanted to sell itself. These issues really began after the President of Production Jeff Robinov left and they put Greg Silverman. From my understanding Jeff Robinov had a better relationship with talent than the other President of Production. But, the real issue is with the company lack of finding a visionary director to shape the vision of DC.

A lot of entertainment industry is about following trends so, if one company does something and is successful, most often every other company will follow.
