I wish both companies could just do their thing, but in this day and age everything is this vs that.

I really wanted a dope JL movie. If you asked me 15 years ago what I wanted to see Avengers or Justice League...I would have said JL all day.
Sounds like Marvel beat the odds. I think most people would agree, JL and X-Men were more highly regarded before the comic book movie wave. Things done changed. :francis:

When I heard they were dropping Ironman I was :mjlol: then when I saw the trailers/movie :ohhh::feedme:
Captain America :mjlol: then when I saw the movie :dwillhuh::feedme:
Thor :mjlol: (still am with this one even though Ragnarok was kind of funny)

They really had a few perfect storms though:

- Perfect tone
- Perfect casting
- Perfect marketing
- Perfect timing
- Perfect start (Ironman)

Even though y'all know I stan MoS/BvS:

- People questioned the DC tone starting with MoS (Dark Knight movies got away with it because it's Batman)
- People questioned the casting of Cavill (I remember the 'he's not an Amurrican reactions), Amy Adams and a black Perry White
- MoS was never, if I recall, marketed as the start of a DCU - and marketing for BvS was all over the place until they actually announced it would be 'Batman v Superman'
- They also don't know how to market the actors. Before BvS there was a point where Henry Cavill was challenging 'Oscars so white', Affleck was going through alcoholism and a divorce and Zack Snyder was reported to have made that rape comment about Batman (still don't know if that was real).
- Timing was off
- MoS wasn't universally loved like Ironman was. So they were divisive from jump.

It's like the opposite of Marvel/Disney. I still think that quality wise they're not behind where Marvel was with the first Avenger movie at all, perception-wise though and JL tanking :picard:

Great points. Their original plan was to give Superman the Dark Knight treatment. While MoS is decent it's no Batman Begins. But still they could have kept going in that direction and made a quality trilogy. But instead they reacted to The Avengers success and made BvS.
And yeah, Cavill and Affleck's real life personas aren't helping the brand.
And something else Marvel benefits from is not taking the material so seriously. Critics and audiences will let more shyt slide if you are going for fun and games. Taking MoS and BvS dead serious skewed the reaction being more serious and knit- picking.
Oh well, the world continues to spin and I think they could still do good business with the DC properties if they are more consistent quality wise going forward.

They aren't supposed to keep up. Just put great films together and get some direction. Cannot be that hard. Get a great team of writers and some fukking cohesion. Take it a director at a time. Matt Reeves is a great start. Shyt since Affleck probably won't be Batman anymore let him direct a DC film

I'm a former DC comic book Stan but prefer Marvel movies. DC trying to "keep up" with Marvel was a big problem in the first place. They weren't just held up at the start line when it came to universe building, they were hustling backwards from jump with no overall vision and limited creative control. Instead of taking time to release some good stand alone movies to make people invested in the characters they just focus on the big 3 and shoehorn the rest of the Justice League into a team movie.

Why was the Green Lantern movie such shyt? It could've been for DC what Guardians of the Galaxy is for Marvel. That could've been an intergalactic space opera that you could get at least 6 high quality movies out of with the source material. Green lanterns were basically Jedi with rings instead of swords but the rings could make swords or ANYTHING else. Treat the Sinestro Corps like the Sith. How do you fukk that up? :mindblown:

Plus I'll never forgive these cats for casting the zombie land guy as Lex Luther :what:
He's supposed to be an evil Tony Stark not Goofy azz Arcade from the X-Men.
