OK, between downloading and heading to the theater I have caught up on enough of the Oscar nominees to give my opinions on a few categories
In order:
Best Picture
1) Zero Dark Thirty -- Easily the best of them all. Intense and gripping from beginning to end
2) Silver Linings Playbook
3) Life of Pi
4) Django Unchained
5) Argo -- Incredibly overrated
6) Lincoln -- Mind numbingly overrated. Listen...I'm not an ADHD movie watcher that expects action and suspense and every turn, but this was so boring I wanted to shut it off. As I watched it all I could think about was how it was made simply to win Academy Awards and served no other real purpose.
7) Didn't see any of the other 3
Best Actress -- Jennifer Lawrence in Sliver Linings Playbook. Naomi Watts was great in The Impossible but a lot of it was due to her makeup artist.
Best Supporting Actor -- Leo got snubbed like a motherfukker here. He should have easily been nominated over Tommy Lee Jones and Alan Arkin.
Best Director -- Ang Lee for Life of Pi. The way he brought this story to life is incredible. So much vision to turn such a simple tale into something so engaging. However, I think Katheryn Bigelow is my real pick, she just didn't get nominated.
