One of my favorite movies. Never saw her as a thot. But I didn’t understand why she went out with bill Bellamy either. Or how my baby(larenz) was able to overlook that.
Ok here’s how it went
Nina, instead of being upfront with Darius about wanting a relationship, tried to get him to proclaim love for her by telling him she was considering getting back with her ex (WRONG play).
Darius, instead of playing her game, told her they was just FWB and she was free to do whatever. Inside he was hurt, but instead of communicating his feelings he built an emotional wall and let Nina go.
Nina, feeling rejected, goes back to her man. She finds that she’s outgrown the relationship, missed Darius, and wants to be with him. She flees back,
Only to find that Darius had (rightfully) moved on. Heartbroken, she accepts a date with a determined, charming, and smooth talking Hollywood (Bill Bellamy). Now, if we are to look at things in Nina’s point of view (and say she’s not a “pure” thot, but a good woman who displays thottish tendencies when in emotional distress we could look at it like this
-Darius was very determined when he pursued Nina. He didn’t take no for an answer. Hollywood was the same way
-Hollywood hung out in the same circles as Darius and was presumably, equally as intelligent and suave.
-Darius’s last words to Nina regarding the Status of their coupling was that they was “just kicking it” and it was nothing at all serious. So in Nina’s warped sense of perception, she meant nothing to him and thus dating Hollywood wouldn’t effect him. Although subconsciously she KNEW that was bullshyt which is why she was angry that Hollywood used her as a chess move against Darius at the party
So Nina felt, if she couldn’t HAVE Darius, then she’d get with somebody, whom, even faintly could REMIND her of Darius. Her misjudgment was that Darius wasn’t in love with her, that Hollywood was even HALF the man Darius was, and that her own hurt, guilt, and jealousy could be assuaged by dating someone else.
So in conclusion. I wouldn’t call Nina a Thot. I’d call her a woman who foolishly utilized Thot-like tendencies to try to mask her pain and guilt. If she would have been up front about her feelings for Darius instead of making the situation needlessly complicated none of the initial bullshyt would have went down
