They weren’t winning that series even if they win game 1 so all those what ifs after the fact don’t matter.
Like somebody else pointed out even Kenny Smith was saying they didn't think they had what it took to beat the Magic. Add in the psychological effect those free throws had on Nick Anderson. That man went 9-18 in that first game for 22 points. He went 9-32 for 27 points combined in the last 3 games. If he plays anywhere close to his normal self the Magic could definitely win that series.

Dallas by way of Houston by way of San Antonio
What if Len Bias is alive and helps Larry Bird win more NBA championships?
What if Sabonis comes over from the USSR to form a dynasty with Petrovic, Porter and Drexler?

There are a lot more consequential "what ifs" than Nick Anderson.
What if DunGawd doesn't wreck his knee right before the 2000 playoffs :sadcam:

Celtics 3 peat in 86 87 and 88. Bird retires after 88, Lakers win the 89 title (pissed from losing in 87 and 88) Detroit still wins in 90 and the bulls play the celtics in the conference finals in 91 and 92 with bias and reggie lewis before he died in 93 :mjcry:

Blazers win that 90s title, make the finals and lose in 91 to the bulls and lose in 92 to the bulls but this in 7. Since drex won in 90 he is never traded to houston in 95 which means they dont go B2B and Orlando actually beats the Spurs in the finals. Which means Shaq stays and Penny nevet gets hurt. They still lose to the bulls in 96 but also in the ECF in 97 and 98. MJ retires. Orlando wins in 99,00,01 and 02. Kobe remains on the hornets wins 6 scoring titles averages 29PPG and becomes the all time leading nba scorer with no rings

You don’t go from a ROLE player missing freethrows to being swept vs 7 game series.

They still lose the series, Shaq still leaves the AFTER thr next season

Above the fray.
Dude was garbage from the free throw the rest of his career. Those 4 misses had a serious effect on his mental fortitude.
He mocked MJ about wearing the 45 number jersey. Grinned while he was saying it.

Was funny to me how he never really recovered from those missed free throws.
