Ok I rewatched Training Day the other day and the quotes he made really question his morality. I know the movie makes him out to be a villain especially with his treatment towards Jake, but with the work he put in on the streets and putting the big fish in jail, does that really make him a villain? nikka said they built JAILS because of me, i know hes tooting his own horn but he also went down his arrest record. He stole from the Sandman but that was just another drug dealer. He killed that retired cop (scene where he shot him with a shotgun in the chair), but he manipulated him and said that the world is better off without him because he sold drugs to kids. Obviously Alonso had scruples and did what he had to do to get those big-time dealers off the street. NOw the obvious really bad thing he really did in the movie was set Jake up to be killed by the Mexicans. But that was on Jake because he wasn't ready for the slimy dealings in the Narc world and had strong ideals. What yall think? PS. First time I noticed Terry Crews in the movie :heh:

Was he a villain? That’s debatable. Depends on your POV. But dude definitely was a bad guy. Was arrogant and showed that he would do anything as long as it served his own interests. Allowed known murderers to do their thing as long as he could use them for the random odds and ends he needed taking care of here and there.

He was obviously good at what he did, was efficient and moved up by any means necessary but he definitely wasn’t a good dude.

Yes, he was evil. A man that will screw over anyone to get his own way is evil or a genius.
He didn’t screw over his posse (Dr Dre and the rest) and they respected him. Hell one took a bullet to make the story convincing.

Known murderers? Are you talking about Snoop Dogg in the wheel chair? Or the Mexican drug dealing informant (who sold drugs to the white people and he and Jake jacked). I think he and other cops do that to get the suppliers, the big fish. Hell Batman does it and he’s always considered the good guy. I think he was certified as the villain in the way he treated and used Jake. But I think he wouldn’t have set up Jake if he took the money to make the boys feel like he’s in. He didn’t take the money and it made them feel like he’s going to rat and he needed to be disposed of.

he'd screw over anyone that was in that movie to get what he wanted, that was the whole point, and why everyone helped jake at the end. alonso had been screwing all of them over, probably for years. the lead mexican said that in the poker scene, said alonso doesn't respect no one. the only person he might not outright kill or setup in that movie was his son. the only reason he hadn't done anything to his crew was bc they made thing's easier for him. if he ever needed to, he'd turn on any or all of them in a heartbeat. this is what men like that do. they have no honor.

Thats true, he might have been a complete and utter sociopath but as he said to catch a wolf you need to be a wolf. Jake would’ve never have a arrest record like Alonso because he’s not as ruthless and cold. Alonso was a success in narcotics because he was ruthless, intelligent, and manipulative. The film never expounded on his past to see a different side of him taking down the big fish. I would’ve like to see a prequel, especially if him leading up to his beef with the Russians.

I was talking about the Spanish dudes he paid to kill Jake mostly. Clearly if he thinks that they’ll kill a cop for a certain amount of cash that he has a pretty rock solid reason to believe that. He’s clearly operating under the philosophy that if it benefits him in the end then the ends justify the means.

That said, I agree that if Jake took the money Alonso would’ve let him skate. Not because he’s a good guy but because Jake served his purpose and is now another pawn that Alonso had leverage over and could move and manipulate as he saw fit.

Jake was the good cop, but he was naive
Alonzo was very experienced and street smart, but he used it for his own personal gain.
He thought about himself only and didn't care to use other people, even if that means their death. That's what makes him the bad guy.
Him setting up the whole scheme was to cover his ass because of his situation with the Russian Mafia. He was a crook cop because he abused his power.
Even the piru bloods saw how he's full of shyt.

Yes. He just knew how to use who he used to be, to get away with it. (mouthpiece)

Like a grimey bytch using her reputation of how her father raised her, to get away with being foul

I wish he was good, but nah. He wasn't written like that. He had pockets of righteousness that he used as a tool...

Ask the black neighborhood that chose to turn their back on him at the end of the movie:myman:

The nikka was prepared to use his son's life as a way to get away from Jake taking his ass in:myman:

I'm only using :myman: because it's relevant to the movie:myman:

Alonzo was a trash ass nikka:myman:
