Your idea of “normal” names are European names mainly associated with whites. I was following your posting pattern actually which usually involves extreme statements and angry diatribes.

Great an actual question. For my children I had names planed already that I guess one would consider "normal" with Ghanaian middle names. Usually I pick names because of meaning. I wouldn't encourage my children to alter themsleves because I don't think they need to go that far since the judgement comes from naming conventions and people associated. Sure you can form a negative opinion of people who you are interviewing, but interaction can influence people more than perception. When people look at names they make assumptions based on the perceived history of those names.

If east indians and Arabs can still have their names with a million and one syllables in the work place we should be able to do so as well. nikkas shouldn't have to "code switch" just for a job opportunity. I wouldn't even feel right working a gig where if I had the same skills but a different name they wouldn't hire me let alone desire to be there in the first place.
