I haven't really been following Indy wrestling/TNA, but is he really a big enough name to come back on the main roster? Just remember Drew McIntyre came back to NXT and he was dominating the Indy wrestling scene AND was an established name on the main roster during his first run.
If Mike fukking Bennett can go straight to main than EC3 can too

Hogan and savage would not have been as big as they were without vince... and goldust, Steve Austin and mankind were not stars when they got singed to the E.... doesn't matter if they came from WCW they are who they are because of WWF

Hogan was already the biggest star in wrestling before he left the AWA.
savage was huge amongst wrestling fans, and his family promotion ICW was something like a big deal.
almost every star the WWF had in the federation years, was already an established wrestling star before signing with vince.

people who didn't even like wrestling, knew about cactus jack.
the name "dustin Rhodes" rings just as many bells with non-wrestling fans as goldust. MAYBE MORE than goldust.

steve Austin was a star in the wrestling world while in WCW. he was basically what mr perfect was to the WWF, minus the brief main event program that hennig had with Hogan.
the WWE narrative is that he was some under-used curtain-jerker, when in reality, the lowest point of his career was when the WWF had him booked as the ringmaster. until they let him go back to the persona he used/borrowed in ECW, and he became a superstar from there.
