I'm some states (I hope most, if not all), if the girl lies about her age, and you had no reason to disbelieve her (in this case if the mom lied too, she had a fake id, you met her drinking in a bar, she doesn't look like an obvious child, that type of thing), it is a valid legal defense.
They would probably be on the hook for extortion, doing it via cell, and the mom for child crimes.
