Like I said it was passive, but these cacs avoided you like you were straight up there to like rob them or had a disease or something. Just cold shouldering and avoidance - social distancing before it was en vogue. And it wasn't a looks thing because I've never had an issue like this anywhere else in the world and my boy wasn't looking crazy either
. I knew what time it was based on the 1st 2 mins in there but my boy from NYC was more
. Like, "I can't even get near people to talk to them
".
In other parts of the world, as a black American, when I've gotten looks it was genuine curiosity with people will coming up to chop it up w/ you. In Mexico even the cac-Mexicans would show some love --ask where you're from in the States, include you in a group round of drinks, etc, etc. Same as in CAC-ass spots in Poland, the Czech Republic, etc. Might get some looks due to novelty but that novelty is usually an icebreaker.
In Leblon it was just a heavy vibe of feeling like you were in a caste society, did not belong, and should leave.
I say it rocked the breh from NYC because he was born and raised there and is used to mixed-race and even mostly white environments feeling welcoming enough. The friend of friend (imagine an olivish looking dude who looks like a mediterranean white) admitted he'd never been iced/cold-shouldered out like that before.
