I've faced this directly and worked against it in advertising and media. Battling perceptions about what audiences will respond to is what we did on a daily basis, for years. Media in general, and especially syndicated programs are tracked, analyzed, and evaluated by numbers.
You and I lamenting about trash tv on a message board is one thing. The EP of a daytime talk show in 2021 has to make decisions based reality and what the numbers say. Look at the social climate we're in, who the top pop stars are, what the hottest shows are, what "challenges" trend on social media.
Tamron herself, who I always looked at a classy woman ,was dropping and twerking to some instagram challenge recently. This would have been a scandal/career destroyer back a few years back.
The media/social landscape in 2021 has to keep feeding people trash to keep their attention.
Black owned media, and serious Black journalism has evaporated because of what the realities are. Men lie, women lie, numbers don't.
