Hmmmm

Does The Coli agree that "showing out"/"flexing" aka conspicuous consumption is Black Culture?

the subjects of the thread appear to be latinos, at least in part

but this topic reminds me of that mtv show about extravagant sweet 16 birthdays. it def wasn't about black kids only lol

My sister just spent 6k for my niece dress. And 6k for my nephew suit (they're twins) Sounds crazy to me but that's Black culture.
Where is this black culture? The south? I don’t remember anyone spending more than $500 all in for prom. When did $10k proms become a thing and why?

I first notice it in the mid 2010's. Not sure about the South but I know in Detroit this has become the norm. Why its like this? Social media. People saw these rich, black celeb proms on ig and started to copy it. Heres an example from a white couple i went to school with daughter on fb. Yeah, irs a party bus nothing like the cars i see rented in Detroit. Nor do i think they spent 1000's on a outfit.

In contrast that suit and those 2 dresses in in the 2 slides are 1000's of dollars

yea, I guess o do remember prom looking much different starting around 09/10. My girls used to teach HS around that time and I came to meet one at her school’s prom so we could go out and them kids were stunting way harder than we did in the early 00’s (and prior)
