Well, it's not really useful to talk about the government like it's a monolithic entity. It's composed of thousands of different people and organizations with their own agendas, some good, some bad. But I'd say root of most of the problems is something akin to greed. More specifically the fact that rich people and large corporations have much more influence over what the government does than normal people. It's been said that if you're in the bottom 70% in terms of income you have literally no influence on government policy. And you don't have much unless you're in the top 5% or so.

This is why things that most people support, such as a minimum wage indexed to the cost of living, or marijuana being legalized, often don't get done regardless of widespread support. Going by polls, a majority of people would support a min. wage indexed to the cost of living, but most wealthy people don't. Guess who gets their way.

I also think people are naive to think that the US govt is the worst/most evil ever. Trust me, other countries' governments are just as crappy.

It's very effective considering it pretty much runs the world. It might not be effective to the regular folk but it does it's intended job very well.

I think it's a combination of all three, plus a couple of others. But it's not a set distribution. It varies depending on the issue. Overall the problem is just that D.C. is stuck in its ways and things just more entirely too slow because of all the blocks. I remember a chief of staff telling me that what we were working on that day was 40 years away from being a reality.

other countries and their crappy governments does not excuse the behavior of our crappy government.

really think about the pain and misery the US "state" has brought on the rest of the world throughout history. the US has a extensive resume of violence, murder, exploitation, robbery, and extortion... the US has participated in pretty much every illegal activity that exists. so pound for pound you gotta put them up there with the worst governments ever. just what they did to the indigenous peoples of north america, and how they followed that up with how they did Africans with slavery puts them up there for worst governments ever.

actually on a totally different subject... now that i think about it, have yall noticed that europe hasnt really been active on the war scene since the US came to power? Europe in the "dark" and middle ages and even going back before that to the decline of the roman empire, was war 24/7. now its nothing. i wonder if everything is really peace, or the war just went underground and to economic and political fronts.

after WW 1&2 Europe realized what modern war was capable of; destruction of entire nations...and it didn't matter if you "won" the war, your whole shyt could still be leveled.

Imo we no longer need govt to run the way it has been. It worked before but doesn't work now its outdated

Govt knows this but greed and malice is what makes them keep up the same soap opera year after year term after term...

The People have the power to no longer subscribe to the status quo and bring about real change that is it
