I think she looks more like

I wish more women weren't so afraid to wear their hair threaded. Too many people equate it with "slave hair" or antiquated americana culture and cartoons.
A lot of African hairstyles (braiding, threading, and etc) are associated with immaturity, slaves, and poverty. When I was in high school back to school was considered a time for everyone to look fly and dress their best , and all that extra stuff. I personally did not care for it and my parents did not have the money for it. Anyways I remember a former friend going crazy because she could not find someone to do her sew in for a lower price. I told her to just get some braiding her and I'll do box braids in her. She brushed it off, and mentioned how braids are childish. I just thought that it was interesting to call braids childish but think getting a sew in is ok. My most recent job was in a cosmetic department store that and the things that I would hear black people say about each others hair was depressing.
There is a book called Hair story: untangling the roots of natural black hair
