Unlike 2008, there were still live shows which kept revenue coming in. Now we see why there's no off-season. A month plus of taped, empty arena shows has killed them. DeSantis threw them an alley oop by declaring WWE as essential. The TV contracts could have been terminated.
They would've been voided if I remember right

Don't know if this has been mentioned in the thread, but if anyone had any sense, they'd take a serious look at where the money from Linda's Super PAC donation came from. It's almost certainly either an off-book payment from WWE, or coming from Vince's pockets themselves. That would explain why these cuts/furloughs came immediately afterward it was announced (also, I figure the XFL's failure and the massive stock price drop has a lot to do with this, but saving $4 Million isn't going to paper over those wounds).

I actually don't have a huge problem with the cuts in the abstract. They've had a ridiculously bloated roster and have been in desperate need of a release season for years now. But they decided to choose the least opportune time imaginable to do their cleaning, which smacks of a particularly disgusting type of corporate opportunism. Instead of doing this a year or two ago, when the problem first started to arise, they do it when people more than ever need financial security. And don't fukking talk to me about them offering money on the way out either.

I was commenting in The Ring forum about Dana White desperately trying to outdo Vince in their race to the bottom by trying to hold a major UFC event on Indian Land in complete defiance of California's shelter-in-place orders, but Vince using the need for talent cuts as a means of shuttling as much of the burden of his financial losses as possible onto the wrestlers is really starting to scrape the bottom of that barrel.

TL;DR? Billionaire is who we thought he was, news at 11.

NXT contracts are structured differently. They get paid a lot less than the main roster talents. Some guys on the main roster are still on NXT contracts like Kairi Sane, Street Profits, etc. The reason we probably won't hear about Kairi getting cut is because they're probably going to let that 30 day offer go. She was getting higher dollar offers from Stardom, and I'm sure AEW will probably throw an offer at her too. So, she's probably good as gone.

She actually took a paycut to wrestle in NXT/WWE :picard:

These are all the people who were wasting away...

Whether some were content with their spot or not, and whether they will be able to find their legs out of WWE.

They couldn't have picked better talent to cut...

The real sad shyt will be the some of these mid-majors collapsing completely. Impact/ROH/MLW level companies...somebody not gone make it.
I agree about taking that one tweet with a grain of salt.

The thing about talent sitting on couches part is a lot of that talent would be traveling to the shows and just be there just in case. We've known for years WWE would write shows all the ways up to the lights go on. But now some of those people are literally at home.

They have a bunch of people in NXT that will be moved up or recently have been moved up recently like Austin Theory. And they probably have a backlog of NXT trainees they need to debut. They still have a huge talent pool. SOme of these people like Hawkins and Ryder were long over due.

Mike K and Maria seem like they been telling WWE one thing and the fans another. Their entire run with the company has been some weird shyt.

The Lars thing, I can't answer, you got me there. Probably someone Vince personally liked and still sees something in him. Maybe he'll be part of the 2nd wave.

Addressing the talent that actually did travel. I still think that was worst than the ones that like say ...the Colons... that actually were home on the couch.

Cuz now you had a bunch of guys that just leave their families, spend unnecessary money from city to city (travel, hotel, food at their own expense) just to get to the arena and hang out backstage or (our favorite running joke that sadly actually isn’t a running joke) in catering only to not be used. Can’t leave till the show ends only to have to do it over and over.

Yes yes they may occasionally have a jobber squash match, be background in a skit where an angry monster/star wrestler is searching for his “feud guy” (and they either run, get punked or beat up), be in a backstage party as a spectator, or comedically chase the 25/8 Intestate I-85 Champion.

But if that’s all their being used for, that in itself has BEEEEEN a waste of money for all parties involved.

Now matter where these guys go, I do generally hope they go somewhere where they can actually get a decent opportunity to build their stock back up. Cuz people love to talk about “the money” but the money really won’t be there is your brand is destroyed. Kurt Hawkins could be the next big great star but he will never ever make Cena money if he’s pushed like a joke.

Just like Stunning Steve or Ringmaster would’ve never been an all time great until he got an opportunity to really show what he can do and was protected/built with some type of care

Yeah, this'll do it.

drugs, steroids, sexual harassment... lets go of non-essential personnel while there's lots of money not being made... that's the last straw!

nikka please. Hardly anyone knew what roids were until 98 and sexual harassment was the norm. That company was smaller and private then. I doubt anything will happen still but the optics of this are horrendous. They were still operational and have cash reserves. Just got a BS deal to keep operating after donating millions to Trump FL GOP. Now they are cutting everyone. And like someone posted earlier the Ryders and Epico should have been cut prior but this company was hoarding people to prevent them from going elsewhere. Now they cut them during an economic downturn where they can’t go anywhere cause of course everything is close(and the business will be hurt for a while) Its just scummy
