My homie got a cousin who won 8 mil in the lotto a decade ago. He lost it all and is now a small time hustla sellin 20 sacks, but he seems happier now than when he had millions. When he had all that money, nikkaz would always beg and hound him.

The first day he lost it all, I sensed a sigh of relief in him. He called up one of the young hustlaz who used to idolize him when he was gettin big money in them streets. He hooked him up wit a lil corner and man, the glee in his face was immeasurable. When cops would come on the block, he would run with the biggest smile on his face like :gladbron:

Money isnt everything to a lot of people.
:russ:
you gotta be real weak to be addicted to ANYTHING.
sheeeit, im one weak muthafukka then
cause i dont know what id do without weed and p*ssy:lolbron:

be runnin round lookin like Pookie and shyt :sadbron:

Media loves these stories of black athletes losing money. Yet when these dudes invest wisely and make there money grow the media damn near refuses to even make an article on their business smarts.

Or the media bytches because they are such cut throat business men or are cheap with their money.

Really? Cuz I've read about a million stories about Magic through the years.

I swear to God if I ever got my hands on millions, nikkas would NEVER see me again. That's how 99% of them go broke. Nikkas bleeding them dry and nikkas being too puzzy to say no.

Wasn't it a gambling problem plus bad business decisions that caused him to go broke? Cause with the money he made during his playing days getting f*cked up off alcohol isn't going to break him even if he's drinking the best of the best every single day. I take it the alcohol caused him to make bad business decisions. It doesn't cost an arm & a leg to get your drink on. Homeless people with no money get f*cked up everyday

Y'all haven't stopped to consider that maybe Vin chose the work that he's doing out of (a) humility, and (b) the opportunity to meet and interact with customers, (not to mention learning the business from the ground up that he may run someday). He is also now a pastor, so meeting new people is a part of the work/lifestyle. Some of y'all thinking of your own selves, wanting to be cooped up in some stuffy office somewhere far away from people lol.

You want the CEO to be like "let's see - you have a degree from academic powerhouse University of Hartford, where I'm sure you took the most rigorous courses; you've struggled with alcoholism for 15 years; you've mismanaged millions of dollars... will you join my team of executives?" If you can't manage your life, your money, or your drinking, how can you even manage a coffee shop?

All that said, I hate that dude's dysfunction is on front street. Plenty of people struggle with addiction and financial ruin but get good jobs via connections and it all gets swept under the rug. I hope Vin at least owns a house out in R.I. - if so, his quality of life is aight.

Normally I wouldn't say anything, however, you are in the media. Is there some reason to believe that Vin Baker was forced to do the interview?

Vin is a pastor and was working on his master's degree in divinity a couple of years ago. Don't you think this is his testimony?

Nah, man, I'm not. I've done freelance writing, but I'm not in the media. I wish Vin Baker the absolute best with his life, certainly not trying to belittle the dude.

Man that would have driven some people to suicide so I have nothing to say, I always liked Vin as a player, there are many people out there who have lost it all and are happier than when they had all the luxuries.

Vin has $$$, it says in the article. He got some back from his accountant.

5 years from now, He's going to be on his Peyton Manning/Shaq owning 20 starbucks

No accountant was mentioned in the OP, so I looked it up.

Financial problems were Baker’s next hurdle. He lost a home in a Durham, Conn., development he was a partner in and a restaurant, Vinnie’s Saybrook Fish House, soured. In 2012 he sued his accountant, Donald S. Brodeur, for mismanagement and breach of contract. Baker said that lawsuit has “been resolved, somewhat favorably,” but makes it clear he needs to work to support his family.

Ex-NBA star Vin Baker conquers demons and shoots for success in Starbucks management

He cant get a coaching position somewhere?

Can he coach?

Colleges don't want a coach with a recent substance abuse history. Chris Mullins coaches at St Johns now but he has been sober over 25 years.

I don't see why people who screwed up their own lives would get an NBA position over qualified people who didn't.

Jason Kidd just had him helping the coaching staff for the Bucks Summer League
