About that quick pull up. I read his book...this is where it originates.

Apparently in the West Virginia slums he would play basketball on his little tore up court with his tore up equipment. Said it would rain alot and he'd have to put sand on the court...not to mention the surface of the court wasnt that even to begin with. Long story short he had to bounce the ball down real hard or it might not get back to him every now and then. Naturally this resulted in him gettin hit in the face a few time...but whats a broken nose to Jerry West.:yeshrug: Well he kept practicing and eventually used that hard bounce to his advantage. He practiced hours on end to avoid going home to his abusive father and started timing his jump with the hard bounce and he inevitably got the pull up he had. I shudder to think what coulda been had there been a 3 point line in his day. West was an innovator. Really he's the only one to use that.

Naw...the first time you show a young'n Larry Legend highlights and their jaws drop. Especially when they question his Top 6-7 All-Time spot.

According to basketball reference.com West is 175lbs and stands only 6-2 in height. Neither is correct, he was 185 and stood over 6-4 barefoot which is good for at least 6-5 in today's NBA

70+ year old Jerry West next to "6-4" listed Dwyane Wade

70+ year old Jerry West next to "6-7" listed Kobe Bryant (he's listed 6-6 now but used to be listed 6-7)

Wade is 6-3.75" barefoot and 6-4.75 in shoes (From NBA draft)
Kobe is 6-4.75" barefoot (Self-admission from NY Times article) and he's probably 6-5.75 in shoes.

He looks undersize on paper, but claims he used to be "just over 6-4" in his barefeet which is taller than wade and slightly shorter than Kobe so hes the size that a dominant NBA shooting guard should be plus that good wingspan. He would tower over players who are listed his old list height. Players today usually exaggerate their height, where as he and other players from his era like to underrate their size (tryna be sneaky or some sh*t). Bball reference should account for that sh*t, otherwise he's gonna go down in history as just another undersized white-dude.

Since all these NBA players inflate their height, how tall was Muggsy Bogues? Like 4'11"? :heh:

Yes West is top 5 Laker all time, through playing career alone. If you count his off the court accomplishments with the Lakers (as GM) he might be the greatest.

West and Baylor as raw talents were a 1-2 punch that could easily rival the Bron/Wade or Westbrook/Durant duos in the league today

those two were unstoppable in their day

@dantheman9758 is a dope ass poster I always fukk with his historian threads for real. Jerry West highlights have me as stunned as Wilt highlights honestly he was a complete blur out there.

He's probably the 3rd or 4th greatest Laker ever.
