They look robotic because they are still learning... They are still thinking while they're making their moves. 95% of the league would look stiff at this point.... That won't change until they do the moves to the point that motions become natural. Just like someone who can't dribble with one hand... When they're learning to dribble with that hand its gonna be choppy and loose. But once their bodygets used to it, those muscles will become stronger and get used to it, and it'll all become more fluid.

They'll both be fine if they can retain it and continue to practice... At some point they won't even have to think... the right moves will just come naturally. The best players don't think before they make their moves... They just do it subconsciously

you have a good point about the first part on why they look so robotic. but its not true that the great players do counter moves completely subconsciously. like i said in my above reply. they can practice all they want. and if they dont have the hoop IQ to remember when to APPLY these moves. it wont matter that they know them thru and thru and can perform them smoothly if you called out each move . some guys just never learn WHEN to use the counter moves. it wont come natural for some people EVER.

Amare isn't lazy on defense... He just sucks, lol. He actually tries pretty hard... He just has no defensive instinct. He often tries so hard, he makes it easier for people to blow right past him...

Another thing... An offensive improvement its am improvement nonetheless. Isn't this all so Melo and Amare can work better together on the floor together. If Amare can pay the most game they can play off each other more (i.e., passing to each other out of the post when they get double teamed)
you're half right again.

amare doesnt try hard on defense. dont be fooled. he tries to go for suicide blocks and suicide steals. thats not trying. playing post defense is HARD and hard on the body as well as the mind. he doesnt want to have to play linemen like defense before he goes for the block or just puts his hands up to make a guy brick a layup.

and i agree he has zero defensive instincts. same with melo. he atleast was trying in the olympics but at times i almost felt bad for melo. he just didnt KNOW HOW to play defense on certain guys. but thats what happens when all you concentrate on is offense.

Amare and Melo don't have the footwork to play defense.

No... For the most part, moves are done subconsciously. Or maybe I should say that very little thought goes into it. Do you play basketball? How often do you think about what your gonna do before you do it. Other than "i'm gonna try to drive"... Everything after that decision is instinctual. Things become instinctual because of consistent practice. If an NBA player can't fine tune a move its because one of three things.

1. They can't retain the fundamentals to effectively practice

2. They don't have the physical ability to do the move effectively (i.e., not quick enough or not strong enough)

3. They're just not working hard enough on the skill, which can sometimes compensate for #2

Lol, like this is going to make a difference in Amare's game. He's still lazy on defense and injury prone.

Melo is a good on the ball defender on the perimeter. But he can't guard in the high or low post.

Amare is just lazy all around. He jumps out the gym but doesn't rebound
