All these "easter eggs" won't make the video better, which is nothing really memorable.
Kendrick has fully become a caricature of what he thinks his fans think about him. His whole 30's age period has saw him evolve into a messenger of empty messages. Rapping about personal experiences doesn't make it dope. Dope is is dope. And I think he's running from the aspect, in a lot of ways. Which puts him in a position to be King of The Abstract like that means anything.
I was going to say the exact same thing but I know people are gonna see it as hating
This song is actually great and it deserved a better video than this. However, this is just another mish mash of various references and easter eggs for his fans to analyze and breakdown, just so they can insist he's deep, while he postures that he's in tune with the culture like a politician campaigning for your vote. shyt just comes off forced and pretentious now.
Irony in both these posts being “objective” about an artist displaying a low budget video for images & references to pay homage to black culture while claiming other people are gonna look too deep is the absolute definition of pretentious bullshyt.
You know how often black culture is forgotten?
Can you remember the last time anyone brought up The Roots Next Movement? Isaac Hayes’ Black Moses?
When’s the last time there was open conversation about even Nate Dogg?
It absolutely is hate, one post talking about dope is dope, the other claiming he’s posturing for acceptance. Contrarian garbage.
Let’s put the mirror on both of you, neither of you have done anything artistically significant in your life so you lash out at someone who not only is successful at it but remains authentically black while doing so. Sounds like a personal problem.
