I remember going to Paris a few years back bar hopping with my wife in the night …… felt some funny vibes from some African cats …. Dipped out real quickSame with London (which doesn't have guns), Paris, etc. Us being Americans we think we're from the real streets and all that shyt but end of the day robbery and assault existed long before guns were invented. Being from the hood here isn't gonna stop you from getting stabbed or having acid thrown on you over there if you're in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Free Loco cityAs a Toronto resident, the majority of our hip hop music is
*hip hop music
and it's gotten worse post drake. Toronto is a funny ass place
Could have saved 20 and just put the other 100 on somebody's wig
This. And it's more of a Toronto thing. The entire hip hop scene here is a fukking joke.
There's way too much gatekeeping and overall it is a very small market, with not much room for artists to grow.
As somebody who spent years booking artists tours, after around 2018 it became very evident that local rappers didn't care to understand the nuances of the Canadian music industry, and didn't care about achieving success in traditional ways (i.e. selling tickets, merch, performances etc etc).
These bums live in a super idealized world where they don't have to do anything and "achieve success". It means more to hit 100k views on youtube than it does to sell out a local show. It just doesn't make sense to me. Previously, the Toronto rapper dream was to sell out a Mod Club (500 tix), but currently there's barely any who can even do that, nor even want to.
Reality is, 97% of rappers here don't make a living off rap.
I do miss it sometimes, but moved on to a different industry that pays better and has less stress.
The "screwface capital".
