Like some other brehs said, I don't think it was a $10 million gift ... He just put Klein in charge of $10 million of his money, where Klein could pursue legit business ventures and stay off the street and flourish, but Jay would still have a business interest in whatever he did.

I can definitely see the confusion, Klein was the boss in the streets.
He allegedly took a suspected murdercase for Jay and beat it, so when he cow out Jay is the boss in a completely different venue. But Klein still sees boss as boss, specially when he somewhat made it possible for Jay to become the boss in this 'completely different venue'.
