Piano keys, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and that lovely mezzo-soprano voice, she’s definitely one of the very few in my generation who got that talent, growth, and soul in their art, platform, energy, and personality that harkens back to the Motown days.

It’s like some samples I recognize but others I wouldn’t know about until I hear a very particular part of the original song and be like “Ohhh shyt!!! So that’s where *whatever rap artist or R&B singer* got this song fromI’m only 28 myself breh and practically an Old Soul, I just love discovering and rediscovering these classics and looking at them in a totally different light after they’ve got sampled thousands of times

Made me appreciate MJB’s “My Life” track even more and I grew up listening to a lot of MJB since my mom was absolutely in love with her first three albums. Felt amazing that rappers where sampling a 90’s R&B classic such as that. But then I recently found out via research and “digging through the crates” online while I was making a cookout/BBQ playlist that My Life was sampled from:
shyt like that just makes you appreciate the art of sampling when it’s done right and appreciate the original song that much more because of its timeless quality
Plus it’s fun connecting the dots like that lol
