It's even funnier if you've seen The Boys and what happens immediately before Homelander starts nervously / maniacally cheesing here. America Chavez? With her two moms?

We got Nope's Friday numbers, which I've also compared to the opening Friday of Peele's other releases:

Nope: Jul 22, 2022 - Friday - Gross: $19,540,000 - Theaters: 3,785

Candyman: Aug 27, 2021 - Friday - Gross: $9,215,245 - Theaters: 3,569

Peele wrote the Candyman screenplay along with 2 others and he was a producer. He wasn't an Executive Producer either. He was a producer on the content side. He was all up in the Candyman video. :dead:

Us: Mar 22, 2019 - Friday - Gross: $28,923,540 - Theaters: 3,741

Get Out: Feb 24, 2017 - Friday - Gross: $10,834,915 - Theaters: 2,781

That's a 32.5% drop from Us' opening Friday in March of 2019, while showing in 44 more theaters. 3 days ago, Nope was hoping to open to $50 million. Now the projection is $44.5 million. Is that what u looking for?

My Thoughts

I spoke on Nope, yesterday, but today is a day for a lil more context. Nope opened at number one with $44 million in 3,785 theaters. It doubled up Thor's $22 million. When I saw the Friday numbers I was like :picard:. With a $68 million production budget, that opening seemed light. Compared to Us, it is. Us, with it's production budget of $20 mill, opened in 3,741 theaters to the tune of $71.1 million in March of 2019. Get Out, with a production budget of only $4.5 million, debuted with $33.3 million in only 2,781 theaters. Of Peele's features, Nope, has the highest budget, the widest release and the second highest opening gross.

Here's where Nope is impressive. It has the highest opening weekend gross for an original film since Peele's own Us from three years ago. That's also a higher opening gross than Quentin "Dead ****** Storage" Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, which debuted with $41 million back in July 2019. Jordan Peele is setting a standard in Hollywood as an original filmmaker and he's becoming his only competition. :obama:

So, is it all bad?

nope-nope-movie.gif

In it's third weekend, Thor: Love and Thunder grossed another $22.1 million to bring it's domestic total to $276.2 million. It's now juuussst shy of $600 million worldwide with $598.2 million. Compared to Ragnarok's third weekend, Love and Thunder, stacks up well. Ragnarok grossed $21.6 million and fell 62%; Love and Thunder's $22.1 million was a 52.6% decline from it's second weekend. :jbhmm: Who knew? I still ain't see that shyt tho.

Love and Thunder's 6.8 on IMDb joins The Dark World's 6.8. It's looking like it'll join Thor: The Dark World, Ironman 2 (6.9) Captain Marvel (6.7) Black Widow (6.8) and Eternals (6.3). All those movies are
Screenshot-20220721-005653-3.png
with the exception of Eternals, which should get
Screenshot-20220721-005713-3.png
:lolbron:

what-thor.gif

Minions: Rise of Gru took 3rd place and gave Universal two titles in the top 5. With a gross of $17.7 million, which was a 34% decline from last weekend, Minions has now pulled in a domestic total of $297.8 million and $640.2 million worldwide. That compares favorably to Despicable Me 3's fourth weekend in 2017: $13.0 million, 32.8% decline and a total domestic gross of $213.6 million. Good for you, Gru and u lil Minion mothafukkas.

screaming-gru.gif

Top Gun: Maverick continues to do double digits, with another $10 mill. It was only down 18.7% from last weekend and has now grossed $635.5 domestically and $1.28 billion. It's now $18 million shy of Jurassic World's $653.4 million domestic take. Titanic is sitting at $659.3 million. Top Gun: Maverick will leap into 8th place all time when it passes Jurassic World and 7th should it pass Titanic. I'm running outta Top Gun gifs, this mofukka has been here for 9 weeks now. :damn:

You gonna stop anytime soon, Tom?

not-today-no.gif

Elvis, with another $6.2 million, has passed $118.3 mill domestically and $210.1 worldwide. :dwillhuh: You thisssss close to breaking even...but not quite. :troll:

Again, no gifs for you, Elvis.

It's worth noting that Jurassic World Dominion took in another $2.9 mill to bring it's domestic gross to $365.5 million after 7 weeks. It's now passed $920.5 million worldwide. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom grossed $3.9 mill in it's 7th weekend and totaled $405.5 million. Seems like an appropriate fall off for Dominion which has a 5.7 on IMDb, compared to Fallen Kingdom's 6.1. :jbhmm: Maybe Dominion shoulda been called Fallen Kingdom. :ohhh:

There's always The Mandalorian, Bryce.

Hands off, Grady.

See y'all next week :salute:

July 29-31 Weekend Box Office Results:
"Nope" Between a Rock and a Hart Place

Aight, we got a new number 1 in town, this weekend. The animated Rock and Kevin Hart vehicle, DC League of Super Pets, took first place with a gross of $23.0 million, from 4,314 theaters. That opening is right in line with The Bad Guys' $23.9 million opening back in April. That was in only 4,008 theaters, though, for an average of $5,975 per theater. DC League of Super Pets ain't that far behind at $5,331 per theater. That bodes well cuz The Bad Guys went on to gross $96.7 million domestically and $245.7 mill worldwide. The Rock gotta be a lil more super to pass The Bad Guys when you consider that League of Super Pets carries a $90 million production budget to The Bad Guys' $70 million. Still, tho, number one is number one. :manny:

935e9613985593b5a3e8a6146cba2d4b625200b3.gifv

:dame:

Nope
fell to second place with a gross of $18.5 million. That was good for a drop of 58.2% from last weekend. That was despite being shown in 22 more theaters. For comparison, Us, had a 53.3% drop in its second weekend. It's now grossed $80.5 million. Again, Nope won't start its international rollout till next week. I saw it last Tuesday. I was glad I saw it on the big screen. I really enjoyed it, especially Kaluuya's performance and the various nods to Spielberg summer blockbusters of yesteryear. :ehh: It's sitting at a 7.5 rating on IMDb out of 19,000 ratings. It's classified under the Horror, Mystery and Sci-fi genres. If that 7.5 rating holds, that's another :35stars: movie, which would make him make him three-for-three in that category. I'd give it :3stars: myself tho. :manny:

Gordy was out there putting work in. :whew:

giphy.gif

With another $13.0 million, Thor: Love and Thunder, took third place. With that $13 mill, Love and Thunder, has now crossed $300 million domestically, with a current gross of $301.5 million. It's at $662.4 million worldwide. Love and Thunder fell 42% in its fourth weekend. Ragnarok only dropped by 22.2% in its fourth weekend back in 2017. :francis:

Ok, Taika.

AnyViciousJunebug-max-1mb.gif

Minions: Rise of Gru took fourth place with another $10.8 million in its fifth weekend. That brings its domestic gross to $320.4 mill and $710.3 million worldwide. Rise of Gru only saw a Fall of Gru of 39.7% in its fifth weekend. Old Gru, in Despicable Me 3, dropped by 41.6%. That's consistency right there. :ehh:

giphy.gif

Aight, you doin ya thing, but still, settle down, mothafukka.

Another weekend, another top 5 finish for Tom Cruise and Top Gun: Maverick. With $8.2 million in its tenth weekend, it's now crossed the $650 million mark domestically. Come next week, Top Gun: Maverick, should officially move past Jurassic World and Titanic to become the seventh-highest grossing movie in domestic box office history. Can it overtake sixth-place Avengers: Infinity War and its $678.8 million? I think it just might. :hubie: What is Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part l gonna do next year?

Think Nope should definitely be able to hit 100mil in a week or two.

Outside of Bodies and Bullet Train this upcoming friday, aint shyt out in aug I care to see.

No doubt in my mind it'll cross $100 mill next week. It'll probably be at $103-ish mill at the end of next weekend. Take a look at "The Black Phone" which just crossed $80 mill in it's sixth week. "Nope" has already done that in two.

It’s crazy to see Top Gun: Maverick’s success, and it deserves every bit of it. I know Paramount is salivating like crazy now that they finally have a crazy successful blockbuster on their hands, but I really hope they don’t milk the franchise with another entry. The heart put into this one was felt and MI is legit around the corner.

Looking forward to Bodies Bodies Bodies though. Can see it opening 5-6.5M domestically along with great word of mouth. Seems to be more marketable than X.

We'll see cuz they dropped "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" sans Christopher McQuarrie, four years after "Jack Reacher " did $218 mill worldwide. Not having McQuarrie in the Director's chair really showed and the sequel was a disappointment and a step down from "Jack Reacher," which I really enjoyed.

"Never Go Back" only ended up grossing $58.7 mill domestically and $162.1 mill worldwide; a far cry from "Jack Reacher's" $80 mill domestic and $218 mill worldwide. Both had a $60 mill production budget too.

This is the first time I've heard of "Bodies, Bodies, Bodies." I really liked "X." But that wasn't a horror comedy so maybe that'll help BBB at the Box Office. Apparently it's been ready to drop for a minute. This is a Variety review from March:

I've seen the trailer for Bullet Train all year. The first time I saw the trailer I wasn't interested, but now that I've seen it three or four times, I'm kind of wanting to see it now. And what's also funny is it's the same trailer every time too.

The year 3030
watched that DC super pets flick w/ my nephew....kinda surprised it hit #1...although there really wasn't anything else that came out last week so I guess it had no real competition.

For me, it was the opposite. When I first saw the trailer during The Finals, I was interested cuz I saw Paper Boi and Joey King were in it. Then, I kept seeing the trailer. I've seen it so many times now that I don't wanna see the movie.

My nephew wants to see it. Did your nephew like it? Do u think it was mid and that's why u were kinda surprised it hit #1?
