Creed Deals Majors Damage; Knocks Out Kang & Conquers the Box Office: Weekend Box Office Results (Mar. 3-5)
Michael B. Jordan is back with a vengeance as Adonis in
Creed lll. He took on all comers and knocked them all out to the tune of $58.6 million. And that was without the Rocky Balboa stimulus. All three
Creed movies have now opened with more than the previous entry.
Creed made $29.6 million in 2015.
Creed ll checked in with $35.5 million in 2018. That gives
Creed lll a 65.1% higher opening than
Creed ll.
Hey, we can talk about inflation (
Creed ll's opening adjusts to $42.1M) but I really don't think it is applicable here that much because of the trend that has been established in the
Creed series.
Creed lll is still 39% ahead of
Creed ll's inflation adjusted opening. They just make more and more and they're critically acclaimed. It's got an 87% on Rotten Tomatoes, a 74 on Metacritic and it got an A- cinemascore.
Ant-Man 3 took home second place with $12.4 million. That's a cool little 61% decline but that gives Jonathan Majors the top two spots on the charts.
Disney knocked off 520 theaters so they see what's up in the quantum realm. It's now made $186.7 million after 3 weekends. That's only 13% ahead of where
Ant-Man and the Wasp was. When adjusted for inflation, it's actually 4.7% behind
Ant-Man 2's pace.
Jonathan Major just putting work in.
Cocaine Bear came through with a cool $11 million which was a 52% drop off from last week. That's a good hold for this type of movie. I saw it last week and enjoyed it but the editing was a little off and it felt long for a 90 minute movie. It's now made $41.2 million domestically and $52 million worldwide. That's a lot of dollar bills to use as tooters.
The Crunchyroll anime flick,
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba - To the Swordsmith Village debuted with $10.1 million from only 1,774 theaters. It's been out for a month in Japan already where it's already made $23.3 million. Audiences enjoyed it as it got to B+ cinemascore. Man, these Crunchyroll joints always seem to do numbers.
I think this is from the movie.
Jesus Revolution rounded up the top five with $8.6 million. It added 100 theaters to spread the good word and it's now made $30.5 million.
$30 million, who you think you got, Kelsey Clinton, Kelsey Carter? Chelsea Grammer? $30 million who you think you hugging over there, Kelsey Grammer?!
Notables
With $23K,
Violent Night has now grossed $50,007,955
M3GAN continues to crawl to $100 million. With another $234K, it's now made $94,893,585.
Knock at the Cabin fell down to 11th place but still made $580K and has now grossed $35 million.
