:wow:

Which gets to the heart of the reason so many got the Venezuelan election wrong. Despite claims that Latin America's progressive tide is exhausted, leftwing and centre-left governments continue to be re-elected – from Ecuador to Brazil and Bolivia to Argentina – because they have reduced poverty and inequality and taken control of energy resources to benefit the excluded majority.

That is what Chávez has been able to do on a grander scale, using Venezuela's oil income and publicly owned enterprises to slash poverty by half and extreme poverty by 70%, massively expanding access to health and education, sharply boosting the minimum wage and pension provision, halving unemployment, and giving slum communities direct control over social programmes.

To visit any rally or polling station during the election campaign was to be left in no doubt as to who Chávez represents: the poor, the non-white, the young, the disabled – in other words, the dispossessed majority who have again returned him to power. Euphoria at the result among the poor was palpable: in the foothills of the Andes on Monday groups of red-shirted hillside farmers chanted and waved flags at any passerby.

Im indifferent towards Chavez

while I recognize the US Media's agenda against him because of his policies in his country (ie dealing with US oil companies on terms that favor his country instead of the way our Trans National Corporations deal with 3rd world countries) I just cant ride with how he treats the media down there. You cannot have that in a free and democratic society.

I'ma up this thread. @Type Username Here can you make this the official all shyt venezuela thread?

I don't want to have to wait for @BarNone to merge previously made threads so I'll just make a quick post to catch people up on the current state of affairs:

http://www.thecoli.com/threads/ecuadorean-airline-tame-suspends-flights-to-venezuela.186031/
Ecuadorean airline Tame has suspended flights to Venezuela, demanding $43m (£26m) in overdue payments for tickets.

Some 80 passengers were left stranded on Thursday at the airport in the Ecuadorean capital, Quito.

Tame says the Venezuelan Central Bank has not transferred any money to its account in Ecuador since April 2013.

Tough foreign currency controls make it difficult for foreign airlines to repatriate money obtained from ticket sales in Venezuela.

The government of President Nicolas Maduro is believed to owe more than $3bn (£1.8bn) to several airlines, according to Venezuela's Airline Association.

The $43m (£26m) owed by Venezuela to Tame amounts to one third of the company's yearly revenue, according to Quito's El Comercio newspaper.

http://www.thecoli.com/threads/venezuela-maduro-signs-decree-to-control-car-prices-lol.169828/
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has signed a decree controlling the price of new and second-hand cars.

New cars are currently hard to find, and Venezuelans often have to pay very high prices for an used car.

Mr Maduro, who previously legislated on the prices of electronics, toys and clothes, has accused criminal gangs of creating artificially high prices in the used car market.

The legislation says old cars cannot be sold at prices higher than new cars.

They had some good reports on this showing both angles. Lesbianas, America loves fukkin around with Latin American countries so it's not like Maduro's claims of U.S. sabotage aren't without some merit. My thing is, how in the hell did an oil rich nation gain this level of inflation? Also, I don't trust Leopoldo Lopez much mainly because he is a descendant of the first president of the country and a part of the top of the upper class whom enjoyed power prior to the Bolivarian revolution. Caprilles seems a bit more genuine since he'd rather compete with Maduro through the political process rather than cause unrest.

shyt just seems fishy as fukk how all of a sudden everyone wants to overthrow their govt. None moreso than Venezuela. :usure:

I think it's a mixture of both honestly. The Capitalists and the US want it to be one way. We know from 2002 they had their hands in the coup attempt (not to mention decades of poking around). But I also think that the middle working class has legit claims.

Chavez made close to a billion dollars in office. There seems to be some fukked up logistic planning as well. Doesn't sound very socialist to me.

With how much shyt costs, the obscenely high crime rate, and lack of opportunities they've got a great claim. I just hate that the opposition narrative sounds so familiar to me. The "socialist" regime has a lot of improving to do, and Maduro supporters are also worried about a lot of the same things as the opposition. This is the part of politics that I hate, a bunch of people suffering needing help and a handful of powerful or influential people playing games with them. :ld:

Tens of thousands of Venezuelans took to the streets of Caracas on Tuesday to demonstrate their support to the government of president Nicolas Maduro and reject violence promoted by the opposition. teleSUR.

Venezuela’s opposition leader Leopoldo López has handed himself in to the authorities after coming out of hiding to attend a rally of supporters in Caracas. The opposition leader and driving force behind the recent violence, Leopoldo Lopez, called on his supporters to march in the same spots where the Venezuelan government on Tuesday will hold a mobilization of workers. Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez has been involved for over ten years in conspiracies and unconstitutional mobilizations that generate violence in the South American country. The Venezuelan ambassador to the OAS, Roy Chaderton, said the US government demanded Venezuela’s government to sit and talk with the opposition and stop the judicial process against Leopoldo Lopez. The United States government said on Tuesday that it was mulling actions to retaliate against Venezuela ‘s expulsion of three American diplomats, rejecting the allegations against them.
