Vegeta was playing chess unlike anyone ever has in DBZ during the Namek saga. He had all 7 dragonballs at one point and was closer than anyone else to being immortal. If it wasnt for Dende being a fakkit....

Thats not true but he by far is the most entertaining for various reasons. And of course he is the only person used for character development.
