It’s a tricky situation because normally you have no idea who is behind the scenes for these estates but she’s his wife and was already active on social media before all of this. She rightfully has a vested interest in his legacy instead of letting lawyers and accountants be very “clinical” about it and his life’s work gradually fades.

she’s doing what she feels like she has to do

on the other side of things, look at Prince’s situation. Dude left behind tons of work and his estate has been releasing albums every year, managing his affairs yet we have no idea who these people are. And they seem to be doing a good job.

I watched this video last night and you gotta give his estate watchers some credit. And there’s gonna be tons of Prince stuff coming for years to come and they aren’t holding back.

I saw that story on 60 Minutes a few weeks ago. Didn't realize that it was still a legal battle over his estate until that interview and it makes total sense.

How do you even determine a monetary value of all the material that he had in the vault and stuck in boxes :mindblown:

Man at least his estate is doing it right. They aren’t waiting 10 years to put shyt out in some ridiculous box set that 50 people will buy. Prince’s siblings are all older and probably don’t know the right route to do a proper rollout of this material.

So the estate is making sure he’s still making money and having Paisley Park as a museum now was a great idea. People wanted to see what it’s like there. The archive is being digitized and songs are carefully handpicked and the breh they brought in seems like he’s including people Prince worked with for years.

This is a best case scenario to come out of a sad situation.

Most definitely. Everybody involved seems like they want to do right by him, which you rarely see in those type of those situations when a estate is at stake. The only wish I have is that they don't eventually combine his unreleased material with other artist that he never would have even considered working with. Actually from the sounds of the people who worked with him, he wanted no part of having the material released anyways with how strict he was about his work.

With this situation, I totally see the vision that she has planned as they want to create a brand outside of a sneaker companies umbrella a la the Jordan Brand. I would hope they created the LLC to with the purpose to sell it to someone else rather than trying to actually create the sneakers and apparel from scratch themselves. As Lavar and the BBB showed, it's not that easy to do or else other athletes would have already done so by now.

Nike should have just given them the lifetime deal and increase production to meet the demand, but maybe they know something that we don't :yeshrug:

she absolutely will have to partner with another brand for this because using his liquid $$$ for it is off the table. It’s clearly not what he wanted or he would’ve done it himself.

Now rather than ride off into the sunset and live a “private” life, she wants to keep his work going and that’s going to mean signing a deal. Maybe Adidas steps in but a Chinese company can ramp things up on the production side much quicker and it covers his fan base out there as well.

As somebody else mentioned in this thread, Wade has the deal with Li-Ning making bread, yet it has no impact whatsoever.

I just hate that it's causing the price of his sneakers to go up even more now than they were previously :francis:

Let’s be reality, Nike can just end the Kobe brand and keep it moving
They got a good 12 months of profits that were not there before last year which is probably why he didn’t have a lifetime contract
All the ADs and retro protos were being sent to outlets 2 years ago
I remember seeing full shelves of the Carpe Diem’s, Kobe 81s, and ADs pretty quickly after their initial release at the outlets
Of course special shoes like the Grinches were still popular and will sellout due to the production numbers but Kobe not being on the court promoting the brand really hurt the line IMO

I always remembered seeing the ADs on Final Score for years.

Carpe's hit the outlets? They were clean off the shelves in NYC. The IVs were made in lesser quantities than the ZK1.

in the very least they will have to accommodate the player requests for the shoes or deal with the backlash from their own athletes. You literally have name brand players like AD who only wear Kobe’s and it’s just not worth the headache.

they are already taking a beating in the media over this and the real fans side with Vanessa because she’s right. Kobe and his team were not happy about the releases and Nike never thought there would be so much demand from active players. So their immediate action should be to send the players some shoes so they don’t have to scramble.

How they save face overall? Who knows. What’s done is done and they’ve demonstrated that they don’t need Kobe revenue or are in an awkward spot with still having to market a player who died.

When have they ever had to deal with something like this? Steve Prefontaine died right before his prime but that was like 10 years before Jordan put the company on his back.

Yeah they were at every outlet in my region, these picks are from the Niketalk outlet threads
Plenty of people over there claimed they got them for as much as 50% off

Too bad the outlets aren't like how they used to be. They stopped doing phone orders years ago. Unless you had someone to hold you down, you were SOL.

Hopefully she ends up coming back to Nike or arranging a deal with Adidas for a lil bit or both. I'm all for trying to get Kobe's vision out there but I aint buyin no Air Vanessa Bryant. I dont think most sneakerheads are going to buy a new Kobe model that he never wore or publicly endorsed. Especially if its with an unestablished brand. That prototype being posted is ugly as sin. Its public knowledge how meticulous Kobe was about testing and engineering the performance of his sneakers. Leaving Nike to go create what they think Kobe would have wanted with another brand will turn out to be a mistake. Financially theres no way it was be as successful as a Kobe Nike rollout no matter what. Execution-wise it wont be what Kobe truely wanted, there's no way that it could. Legacy-wise i think it wont deliver or resonate with Kobe or Sneaker fans to the level of any of gis previous models. Theres no way that it could, even if the swoosh stayed on it.
