Meh, she wouldn't get PT like that anyway and the backlash would have been through the roof. If people think the Tatum shyt was bad, CC's fans would've raised hell until Christmas. Would people really watch the games to see her be a cheerleader? She's not necessarily needed.

The medal is a foregone conclusion. The goal shouldn’t be to win by 25 instead of by 20. The goal should be to get more people watching your sport so they will continue to watch and spend money, therefore increasing the status of the league and boosting EVERYONES bottom line.

Clark AND Reese should have been on the team.

I mean I get the calls to have them both on the team, and I agree to an extent. I just see the issue popping up from social media/fans angry that they wouldn't be playing meaningful minutes. I just don't see the value in having them on the team and then they don't play, I just don't see how big of a boost that would be. Playing meaningful minutes and having an impact, yeah. Having them log close to 0 minutes or straight up 0 minutes isn't really the boost yall think it is. May as well not have them on the team, and guess what, that's what happened. I'd LOVE for the women's game to get a boost and I'm a CC FAN, just let's be realistic here.

She's not needed to win but her and Angel Reese would have had that arena packed and the ratings would be outta here
what would be the point of having ratings just to watch them look uncomfortable on a bench?

1. That's already happening regardless of what happens over the next 2 weeks.

2. if fans can't acknowledge objectively better players than Clark in their own light, that doesn't help the sport. The people who want Clark there don't merely want her along for the ride. They want her there to be treated as if she's A'ja or Sabrina or Stewie and she's not that, not yet anyway. Seems like the ones who wanna see her in the appropriate light have to wait til 2028 (or 2026 at least) because by then at least the results will justify the hype.

There's literally no other example in any major sport where the hype train of the league is probably not a top 20 player. It would be like if MLB decided to bet the house on Elly De La Cruz over everyone else.

They should have cashed out on that exposure who knows what Clark will be in 4 years. :francis:

If you're cashing out this soon on the exposure, you're kinda not confident that she'll be worth anything to the sport in 4 years. If that's the case, the "growing the sport" cry is a bullshyt one. What her fanbase is doing is risking us being sick of her no matter how good she may become. Don't run her into the ground.

The hope is that in 20 years, we're wondering why she's on her 5th Olympic team because some young talented baller is ready to captivate everyone the way she has.

If people were ready to stop doing what they were doing to tune in or arrive live to watch her blank ass expression on the bench hoping that in the 4th quarter of a route, she comes in, it's weird, and it's not accomplishing what you're hoping it would. Before you know it, you'll want her starting the next game and if it's at A'ja's expense let's say, so be it. That's counterproductive.

Guess it's not a good idea to bet the house on her then. Why assume she'll grow the game when I can't even be confident in her relevancy?

We can't overreact to this. That US team's been geared to go for a minute and half the country was ready to throw them in the bushes after an exhibition.

and let's be real, part of why anyone even wants to see Reese and Clark together is because we hope the tension is palpable. There's few things that America loves to watch more than 2 women who don't like each other but have to work together.

Why would Reese and Clark have to play zero minutes? The USA women beat down most opponents by 20+ every game. They can afford to play everyone.
because they'd be lower priority than everyone else, so their playing time wouldn't be a given especially as the games become more important. Their fans want the kind of assurance that the best players get.

That’s objectively not true. Tim Tebow was the most popular player on the NFL and led the league in jersey sales coming back damn near at 40 years old. Yao Ming was leading the league in all star votes because of the Chinese market and literally broke MJ’s vote record. He started the NBA all star game averaging 13 points a game.

Team USA in 1992 put Christian Laettner on the team. In 2004 Lebron and Melo were on the team to just be there until everyone realized the team was bad.

In soccer National teams will regularly bring along young stars to generate interest and ticket sales.

Never mind the fact you are comparing the WNBA to teams that aren’t legitimately subsidized by their parent organization so they can stay afloat and where the average player is barely making a living wage.

I don’t care if Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are dogshyt (which they aren’t, both are already setting records, you insinuating they are scrubs is baffling) , you stick them on the team because it makes business and financial sense.

No hate but this years games come on at a great time too. (Depending on host country the time difference is trash)

Group stage games are 11am and 3 pm est
No hate against who? Time zones? :russ:
It was at a great time though. But also i think everyone knew it had the best chance for usa to be in a real game this week vs jokic. These next two games might dip some
