My uncles (plural) still works at at the Gary plant and one is in burns harbor. I live in Northwest Indiana. I wonder how this is going to look in a few years.
My last surviving uncle and aunt lives in Gary (might be the Merrivile border), my grandma lived on Cleveland Street, I used to go every summer and was born there.

I really hope nothing causes further contraction there. I will always love Gary.

Breh, I'm a Merrillville Pirate. Spent all four years of high school at that school. I grew up on 54th street. 52nd is the Gary/Merrillville border. Close to that border means that they lived in the Glen Park part of Gary.

Just asking, what time frame in terms of years did you come? So crazy, I moved from Detroit to Indiana. Small world breh.

My parents went to Gary west HS...that stone that's outside...my grandfather (and my) name is etched on it. My sister actually went to Beverage when she was a little kid. We moved when I was 3 to Grand rapids, and I moved to Ann Arbor going into HS.

I used to visit GI every summer during the bulls' run especially. I remember people shooting in the air when the bulls won in either 92 or 93. Cleveland St went down bad year over year, I didn't know it but the house across the street from my grandma was filled with kids and fiends and shyt, I was oblivious and friends with them but grandma used to make me shower like crazy afterward and eventually I couldn't hang with them 😐.

That said, I went back for the first time in years like 6 years ago, with the whole family when my aunt retired from working for the city energy company, and we had a party at Marquette park pavilion. It was a blast from the past breh....pepes tacos, and driving around town basically getting my dad's life story as an adult. It was an awesome trip.

Our parents prolly knew each other breh

My stepfather went to West Side, the Cougars. That's the only public high school from that era that is still open in Gary. Wirt, Horace Mann, Roosevelt (high school of the Jacksons and Glenn Robinson) and Lew Wallace are all closed.

City energy is probably NIPSCO. Marquette Park by the bench is fun. Pepes Tacos is always fire.

Capitalism baybee! the best economic system on earth! :myman: :blessed:

Japan is capalist too and America isn't a purely capitalist country, it has a lot of socialist elements. In fact according to the index of economic freedom America doesn't even rank in the top ten of most capitalistic countries.

The real difference is the politicians in Japan actually give a fukk about the citizens and not just lining their pockets or donating to Israel like ours does.

Everything is for sale. Only thing that matters today is the bottom line. This country is going to the shytter.

Crazy thing is both the right and left are fighting for and against different aspects of what’s happening. Birthright citizenship needs to be reworked but the left will fight it. Certain assets shouldn’t be for sale to foreign entities but the right only cares about their investments.

What would you do with birthright citizenship?

the ether

This is American capitalism, unfortunately, and neither the Republicans nor the Establishment Dems want to do anything about it. While this one sale won't mean that much, it's indicative of the general trend which is bad.

1. I don't like industry being controlled by fewer and fewer big companies
2. I don't like manufacturing and supply chains moving overseas
3. I prefer local control over business as much as possible

Seems like this move makes all three of those things less likely.
