One thing about balloon tech is it's a possible tool for missile defenses.

Can put a bunch of balloons up in the air and put interceptors or lasers on them for example.

Float them over a few silos and they can intercept missiles coming out of bunkers.

Put them over your country and they can intercept missiles coming in.
