Awful way for a person to die. He seemed to have a real interest in the culture and country which I feel makes it that much worse. I would like to know more about the film makers and possible threats the government had to embassies at the time. It seems like a mix of things and miss steps. Obviously the consulate wasn't secure by any standard which is a huge blunder. Especially in such a volatile and dangerous country. The Embassies I've come in contact are massive fortresses with heavy defenses and hundred of guards so I'm not sure what the hell happened here.

Are vehicles with important individuals marked in these types of countries because you have to wonder.
What kind of car was the ambassador in. I really doubt a random group of demons just say *hey lets show up to the spot with these demonic arms and see if we can clip someone important. Who knows, maybe we'll get an ambassador" To me this seems a lot more calculated with demonic parties being privy of sensitive information necessary to make something like this happen.
