No matter how you slice or what side you're on, walking away from a starting job at QB, undefeated, and ranked is nuts and unprecedented. Had he improved and the team kept winning, he could've been drafted as a Taysom Hill type from the Saints and been the new utility guy and making way more than the one time payment of $100-200K he might get at another school a year from now. Can't walk away from a situation like that when you're starting, winning, and ranked. His future was right now.

This guy doesn't have Taysom Hill's speed or arm. He's running by college guys who can't tackle and throwing these loopy throws to wide-open college WRs, but he'd get eaten up in the NFL. Taysom Hill of the CFL is a more realistic aim I think.

Always knew this was the way teams would counter having the pay college athletes...

They would just...not pay the athletes the money they said they would :mjlol:

You keep playing we'll get you the other 97k when your a 6th year senior :mjlol:

Oh damn you got drafted in the 5th round by the Dolphins whelp that makes you ineligible for the NIL money good luck :mjlol:
Slippery slope.

If a school gets a rep for not honoring their promises....other schools will recruit against that. "Don't go to State U, they won't pay you."

Top shelf guys don't have to worry about it but middling guys at smaller schools are ripe for fukkery.

i had to google how many years he had left to play cfb. because if he was at the end of his eligibility doing this then i hope he ready to go get a real job
but he has 1 more year left because of that 4 game rule

looking at his stats, who really about to give this kid 100k

Dual threat QB breh has almost 300 rushing yards in 3 games

He will get paid

Those passing stats are misleading - he's a running quarterback who only throws to open up the field and hit big plays. At Holy Cross he rushed for 2,500 yards over the last two years (including 330 in one game!), and despite a bad completion percentage he basically never throws picks. Was a finalist for FCS Offensive Player of the Year. His game plan is to send receivers deep looking for the big play, then scrambles or play-actions to move the chains, and often enough he hits the big play on the scramble too.

The nut of it is that he's a Mountain West quarterback who is 3-0 with two wins over Big-12 teams and a 75 QBR. He can't really throw for shyt but he's still an effective player. I think this is his last season of eligibility and he wanted to make his money.

Yup he'd be good for a bunch of teams out there

Nah, from the limited gameplay I've watched and his measureables/stats, I think his absolute ceiling is "Great Value Tebow", and the real Tebow couldn't even find a team in the league.

Taysom Hill is a unicorn because he's insanely athletic even for an NFL player (4.4 forty, 40" vertical, 700 lb squat). Tebow was ridiculously athletic too (4.7 forty at 245 lbs, supposedly 450 lb bench and 650 lb back squat, nearly 40" vertical). And they're still fringe players.

Sluka just isn't at that level athletically and he's a worse passer too. Shifty for his size though, does a great job of making guys miss in the open field and then powering through arm tackles. But I just don't think NFL defenders are going to be missing those tackles on him.
