Because I feel that everyone has good solutions on how to "fix" the African American community but when it comes to "where do you we get the money?" There is never a solid set of answers. We have not proven to be able to do both at the same time. Not in a long term sense. I'm personally focusing on getting a financial base together. That will give me the power to invest in or create black owned businesses. I think you can still organize and have your thoughts together but your emphasis should be on the money. I think we emphasize more on the idea...
nikkas gotta get real jobs.

majoring in communications and entertainment and going to shtity schools aint gonna cut it.

Yeah we definitely need to OVER educate ourselves but I do feel that everyone is not cut out for corporate America. But those that do choose to go to college should choose a major that counts.I know I'm going to have my daughter apply to a bunch of privates and ivy schools and see how much money they will give me. if you keep your kids grades up and network a little you'd be surprised the schools they can attend for free.

I don't really care about corporate america even.

Its the fact that people major in skills that DONT allow them to create jobs for themselves.

We DONT need more english majors.

We just dont.

blacks need to shy away from the humanities if the population as a whole wants to make headway in the world.

At the beginning of mean streets
What's wrong with blacks going to a private school or ivy league?

Absolutely nothing. And you'd be surprised how many resources there are to get scholarships and attend schools for free. There are (non-profit) organizations that help black families find the proper resources to have their kids go to the best schools for free. I believe that is extremely important.

Black people should have their own schools, howd feel about your daughter learning only cac history at school?
Only a matter of time until she wears contact lens and a weave
You're right. When it comes to education I still need to shift my focus from associating Ivy leagues and private schools with being the "best" education has to offer. Especially considering the learning environment.

You want to get ahead, but you dont want to make the system work for you.

No wonder you're setting yourself up to fail.

Idiots homeschool their kids.

Because I feel that everyone has good solutions on how to "fix" the African American community but when it comes to "where do you we get the money?" There is never a solid set of answers.

Have you read powernomics by Dr. Claude Anderson? He lays a very good blueprint on how to get an economic base (that's actually his passion and expertise). If you haven't read it, I'd recommend you pick it up.

Here's a video of him talking about some of the solutions (solutions are towards the end).

Also the works of Garvey lays a great blueprint for it. Black people just need to up and do for themselves. Look around your community and see if there's an area where you see a need, then start a business to capitalize on that need.

We have not proven to be able to do both at the same time. Not in a long term sense. I'm personally focusing on getting a financial base together. That will give me the power to invest in or create black owned businesses.

What businesses are you planning to start? I hear that sentiment a lot from "conscious" folks, but nobody ever specifically says what type of business they want to start. Personally I've started 2 companies (focusing on IT solutions for businesses and consumers). It wasn't difficult. You get a plan together, get a team together, then execute.

If you're issue is start-up capital, how much money do you need? What assets if any do you have to offer as collateral? Who have you contacted in your network asking for help in raising money? How much have you sacrificed of your own personal finances to put towards acquiring the needed capital? Have researched any government based grants or loans and applied for them?

I think you can still organize and have your thoughts together but your emphasis should be on the money. I think we emphasize more on the idea...

He's not emphasizing on the idea, he's giving specific solutions to problems that he sees. Dr. Anderson speaks specifically on what to do in order to create an economic base, no ideas from him either.

The main issue, in my opinion, is the folks who call themselves conscious; the ones who claim to be concerned about the state of the black community, really don't do shyt. It's nothing more than a lot of talk and rhetoric from their end and very little action, if any. And in return, nothing gets done.

One of the reasons why I highly respected Dr. Claude Anderson is because he created something tangible outside of a book, DVD, or lecture series. Umar appears to be doing the same thing with his school as he says he's hoping to break ground in 2015, and I hope he actually gets his school started. I've already personally decided to finance at least one student for an entire year myself (he said it should be ~$500/mo).

In before thread is derailed with Umar hate.

Props on the videos breh.

They're already here breh.

One of the things I had to accept is when you out yourself in any type of leadership position, there will always be folks who does nothing other than tell you it can't be done or why it's being done is incorrectly. Then when you ask them to jump in and help, they hit you with the :whoa:

So I just say fukk em. People like them are no threat to anything so I just ignore and avoid any input they have :yeshrug:
