@DavidAstinWalsh
I mean, on a fundamental level this is why we’re told it’s not okay to crack jokes about the health care guy getting assassinated—because the elite donor class is extremely shook by the prospect of political violence directly targeting them.
2/61
@DavidAstinWalsh
There is a degree of populist anger towards corporate CEOs out there that is clearly politically combustible, but political parties and institutions that are reliant on support from corporate elites are singularly unable to harness this energy.
3/61
@DavidAstinWalsh
Even the tut-tutting “don’t make jokes about a tragedy” pundits are less genuinely morally outraged about a murder and more positioning themselves to ensure that their public views are aligned with the corporate elites who fund their positions.
4/61
@radicalpathway
Why socioeconomics & the ever increasing divide between classes can’t be ignored. It will find its way to the doorstep of the wealthy, one way or another.
5/61
@VanyaWright
When politics becomes so corrupted that change isn’t possible through legal means, people will turn to violence. This happens again and again. I don’t know why they always think this time will be different. Today’s ruling class isn’t special and isn’t immune.
6/61
@zukeepre
So the "elites" are now living with uncertainty. Welcome to our world.
7/61
@IbaraEleven
Unbelievable how many times I’ve seen headlines use the word “chilling” at this point lmao
8/61
@citeyourwork
Thoughts and prayers, kids.
9/61
@SquirrelGrumpy
Shocking how many that kill by the pen are offended when one is killed by the sword.
10/61
@ZeldaShagnasty
We were founded on violence and we will never rise above it until we value human life more than power or profit.
11/61
@PetreSolheim
This is the headline the NYT should have run on this not-very-tragic UHC story:
12/61
@RidleyDM
I'm not in the elite donor class and I'm shook at how many people seem to think society would be better off if assassinations were considered widely acceptable and anyone who thought someone else was evil was justified in killing them.
13/61
@GonzalezGetulio
14/61
@World_in_Common
And they should respond by reducing their negative effects on society. Increasing security while doubling down on the bad actions is not going to cut it. They armed America for profit and they are reaping what they sowed.
15/61
@wiredgourmet
They must all suffer from a guilty conscience.
16/61
@leninslinens
pretty funny that they're acting shocked and frightened when the theme of the met gala was a short story about some bourg trying to destroy time itself because the revolution was closing in on them
17/61
@natashablue22
Imagine being so out of touch that you think you can play with people's lives without consequence. Angry people with access to guns is a dangerous group to f*ck with. Living in fear is their new norm, just like ours.
18/61
@the_migrator
None of this energy was there when we saw Palestinian babies with their heads split open by Israelis and our weapons. fukk them, and their CEOs.
19/61
@FullLaneFemme
I said on another platform ultimately nothing would change for the people these companies leech off of and all the other CEOs will just invest in personal security

@Inhumansoflate1

@Matt_Stefon
Some one tell me, ‘cause I have to know-did his hobbies include buying up rental housing and doubling the rent with thirty days’ notice and private student debt collection?
22/61
@tangledupinbleu
I used to be a classroom teacher and I felt really on edge, too. Many of us did. But nothing changed.
23/61
@howtorestoreus
And I don’t understand why we are willing to give them that power
24/61
@HOUmanReporter
They should search Etsy for the phrase Eat the Rich.
25/61
@mistergizmo
If only teachers and children (among many others) didn’t have to be fearful as well.
26/61
@AnnAnne700
They realize a barrier has been crossed now.
27/61
@timechaser220
And let’s be clear media: It really isn’t chilling to the rest of us common folk. It is chilling to you and the CEOs. Read the room!
28/61
@ParliamentUK1
Good. They should be terrified. I hope this guy wasn't the last.
29/61
@mutts678
The corrupt ones should be worried if they’re doing terrible, fukked up things.
30/61
@sweetsteppers
They shouldn’t be so evil then! Not my problem
31/61
@surelynotwalrus
The sort of direct effect this has had on behavior makes me think they were truly not aware just how much anger and how volatile the situation is. I’m sure the most frightening thing in the world to them is being known and associated with their crimes
32/61
@StillPalazzoP
Exactly.

While executives at a similar in Latin America routinely have bodyguards and armored vehicles because they actually acknowledge the profound income inequality and the rage it creates.

Are those scare quotes around the word chilling, indicating skepticism about word choice?
Or unironically quoting someone?
39/61
@J_K_Chesterton
Yes, obviously people are disturbed by seeing a bunch of internet losers cheering that a man was murdered in central Manhattan for running a business people have grievances with.

When you don't realize what the real world implications of "increasing shareholder value" means for a health insurance company.
59/61
@Helloecho12
Yeah, cool theory, but I've always felt a strong moral taboo against celebrating cold blooded murder. Seeks like a good standard.
60/61
@StrossiCro
I hope this is not the last one, I can see real wages skyrocketing if this trend continues.
61/61
@AnitaLaLouise
The corporate elite decided decades ago to cut back on raises for their workers and keep all the money for themselves, they DESERVE to be afraid. They've been not giving us raises, not providing proper insurance coverage, price gouging and we were just supposed to take it?
