At this point, he's not going to get a school built. He should've started off small, with realistic goals. But he was talking about give what you can and then in the next sentence, scold people for not giving enough. I donated once to his project, but I started hearing him talk more and more and realized that his school is not going to get built. Telling people that their kids have to wear their natural hair and not perms or weaves? I just think he's gotten caught up in his own hype. He's become bigger than his message, just like some preachers. Sooner or later, people are just going to tune out.

You have it wrong my dude, I was a supporter of his school, I gave money. There's nothing wrong with what he's trying to instill, I just think you don't come right out of the box saying that's one of your plans, because it reeks of indoctrination. You can't strong arm people into giving to your cause when the parents themselves may not have seen the self pride of natural hair.
Allow them to come as they are and then show them the benefits of rocking natural hair. That's like a preacher telling people that they can't come to his church unless they are saved. There are steps to this.

I respect that, because we don't disagree on his intent because I understand what he wants to accomplish. I need to go back and listen to him when he stated the thing about girls and their hair. I don't remember if he said they can't come with weaves and perms, or if once they enrolled, they would need to rock a natural style. But I may have misunderstood what his initial enrollment criteria.

I don't care about posting histories....folk could sound like Malcolm X, one day and Raven Symone the next nowadays.

My point being made is that he is trying to instill love for self into a self hating population of our community that have been drenched in white supremacy. He's not "strong arming" anyone into doing anything, he has an uphill battle to fight against, because most of the parents are if not as worst, worst than the children with the self hatred, so he wants it to become a standard for schooling, because he is showing that the environment that precedes the cac public school systems just births and grows the self hatred even more. He doesn't want it to fester in this type of structure...because then its a useless venture and structure to create....its not just the education, its also how you carry yourself......

If you read my original post from an honest perspective bruh, you'll see that I love Umar's goal, but I hate the fact that he's denigrating his followers and looking down on babysteps to get that goal. I posted an example of just how powerful those babysteps can be and brothas felt compelled to give.

When egos are checked, it's clear that it's on all of us to help in any way possible, even when there are philosophical differences. I want black folks to do well because we've suffered long enough, not because I want to see Umar shine or my homeboy shine. These issues are bigger than the individual, so if you can't discuss your difference with my point of view without being emotional and snippy, let's just agree to disagree because I'm not really in a mindstate to deal with foolishness right now.
