The UFC brass has already let it be known that they care more about making "money fights" then legitimate competition, so I don't see why they or anyone would have a problem with this, unless they want to be hypocritical.
They let Conor hold a up a division with a plethora of legitimate challengers, so that he could chase big fights. And Frankie Edgar got royally screwed in the process. Then they let Bisping pick a fight with a 46 year old man that has no business being anywhere near a title fight because it would do big business. Even though it meant Jacaré was going to be left out of his earned title shot. Merit clearly has no bearing on how the UFC sets up fights if there's a big payday involved.
