This my friends, is what they call romanticizing. No, your hero went for the takedown because he had mentally given up and was afraid of getting KO'd on the feet. A fighter would've banged it out or at least found space until he recovered, ESPECIALLY since standup is his strength. He was looking for a way out without being embarrassed by losing to his own game, of course being subbed by someone far superior in Jiu Jitsu would seem far less embarrassing. Talking about "He ran into the fukking fire" Running into the fire would've been to continue trading leather even after being rocked, like many a fighter has done.
