That's not the point of fire movement and fire and maneuver tactics. This was a poorly trained individual, most likely belonging to a Reserve/National guard unit. The Army (NG) is notorious for this.

Considering he had a carbine and not a SAW, his single rifle provides nowhere near the volume of rounds to provide acceptable suppressive fire. This dude was sitting there, standing off in the open, with no concealment and no cover, while silhouetting himself against the sky, and nowhere near angle to effectively shoot or have his rounds fall into a beating zone that might actually prove somewhat useful.

What he did was try to play hero, got lit by some poor marksman (you can see the enemy rounds miss him considerably throughout the video) or someone shooting from an extremely long range (most likely scenario), and now had to put his squad/platoon in danger by trying to save his ass.

There is a reason why units maneuver in fire teams or squads, and not as individuals.

damn son

Juba and several others snipers were revered during my stays there. It's that sort of mutual respect between warriors that is rare these days. You knew they were the enemy, and would have loved to kill them, but you had to admire the skill. It's like a work of chess, even when you queen gets taken you have to admire the beauty in the strategy at times.

The snipers that wreaked havoc in our Area of Operations (AO) were 2 Chechnyan cats. Our snipers finally caught them but they ruled the AO for a bit. They were very selective with their shots, maybe one or two every week. If they missed they didn't get greedy. Finally figured out that these dudes were sniping using iron sights and using no scopes.

Don't really remember what happened with Juba. I think it was the prevalent thought that there were multiple snipers. Maybe one of the Army cats can answer.

Most of the effective snipers in Iraq were all foreign fighters from places like you just said. Juba was from syria special forces, but he made a movement that inspired a shyt load of snipers and marksman in Iraq. but all that shyt died up when they green lighted the 50cal anti sniper teams.

After them nikkas were like :mindblown:

He was a dumbass that's why. He put everyone in danger with that CallOfDuty/Battlefield hero shyt. Motherfukker ignored about 100 or more years of conventional small unit tactics.

If that was an offensive attack to take a hill or something, that motherfukker would have been left there to think about how stupid he was.

Yea, once they brought in the SEALs and Detachment D counter-sniper teams to the AO, it put a quick halt to it.

THe GOAT sniper (I'm biased):

Carlos Hathcock - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

During the Vietnam War Hathcock had 93 confirmed kills of North Vietnamese Army and Viet-Cong personnel.

The Viet Cong and N.V.A. called Hathcock Lông Trắng, translated as "White Feather", because of the white feather he kept in a band on his bush hat.

One of Hathcock's most famous accomplishments was shooting an enemy sniper through the enemy's own rifle scope, hitting him in the eye and killing him.

Hathcock only once removed the white feather from his bush hat while deployed in Vietnam. During a volunteer mission days before the end of his first deployment, he crawled over 1,500 yards of field to shoot an NVA commanding general. He was not informed of the details of the mission until he accepted it. This effort took four days and three nights, without sleep, of constant inch-by-inch crawling. Hathcock said he was almost stepped on as he lay camouflaged with grass and vegetation in a meadow shortly after sunset. At one point he was nearly bitten by a bamboo viper but had the presence of mind to avoid moving and giving up his position. As the general exited his tent, Hathcock fired a single shot that struck the general in the chest, killing him. He had to crawl back instead of run when soldiers started searching, and later regretted taking the mission, for in the aftermath of the assassination the NVA doubled their attacks in the area, apparently in retaliation for their general being killed and leading to an increase in American casualties.

In 1967 Hathcock set the record for the longest combat kill. He used a M2 .50 Cal Browning machine gun mounting a telescopic sight at a range of 2,500 yd (2,286 m), taking down a single Vietcong guerilla. This record was broken only in 2002, by Canadian snipers from the 3rd Bn. PPCLI during the War in Afghanistan
