Not to mention that it was used by slavers to justify slavery.

I watched that movie Silence the other day and even though the movie is supposed to show the awful shyt the Japanese did to Christian missionaries during the 17th century, after I read more about the Portuguese attempts to bring Christianity to Japan before it was banned and they were prosecuted, I have to respect how the Japanese peeped game and unfortunately a lot of folks in African countries did not.

The Japanese didn't allow Christians to take hold because they viewed it as a way for European countries to try and colonize Asia. They already were in the Phillipines and parts of China at this point. The Shogun saw that folks would be more beholden to western Christian leaders like the Pope or christian societies instead of the Shogun and Japan. Other European countries even confirmed that Portugal had colonial intentions before kicking them out. Religion went hand in hand with enslavement and instituting another system of control outside of the leaders in your own country. Once you get the populace to be more faithful to your religion instead of their own country and leaders, they will welcome you carrying a gun in the name of Jesus to come and throw out their apostate leaders. The Bible always came before the gun.

Now look at us, we still have tons of folks in our community beholden to some religion from Europe.
I don't know about that one breh.

In the Clouds
Hmmmm..
At the exact same time America is falling apart.

Wonder if there is some kind of correlation ??????

:sas2:

Laissez-faire free market values filling the void in my opinion. Everybody in this country whether conscious or not given to the appeal of greed and hyper individualism.

But in all honesty the Christian right has embraced these values as well

It would be nice if a religious tradition like liberation theology was allowed to develop from the left

This is one of the main reasons why our community is struggling now.
No it's not, In fact you can point to church as being one of the reasons why we still struggle. Any time black people were ready to fight back the church was always used to settle up down. We pray for things to change instead of actually doing the work to change things. It's ok to be spiritual but it's not ok to use it as a crutch.

2 Thessalonians 2:1-3

Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,

2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.

3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

Amplified Bible

Now in regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to meet Him, we ask you, brothers and sisters,

2 not to be quickly unsettled or alarmed either by a [so-called prophetic revelation of a] spirit or a message or a letter [alleged to be] from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has [already] come.

3 Let no one in any way deceive or entrap you, for that day will not come unless the apostasy comes first [that is, the great rebellion, the abandonment of the faith by professed Christians], and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction [the Antichrist, the one who is destined to be destroyed],

I think a lot of people are still spiritual but they don't like the message/messengers in most churches.

Instead of just focusing on kindness, charity etc., it ends up being about politics, maintaining certain social "norms", people being up in your business and so forth.

Church is probably easier for married couples but I could see it being tough for singles/young folks, LGBT folks etc.

LGBTQ+IA+XYZ has no place in the true church. REALITY

If you're in one that accepts that then you are in a house of babylon the great. Most people can't recognize the spiritual battle going on so that's why they get fooled so easily.
